WHO is going to organize quilts for our fellow American's in New Jersey and New York? It breaks my heart and brings me to tears seeing the devastation that hurricane sandy has caused ... the houses in Queens really hits close to home for me. And I know ... when stuff happens, QUILTERS QUILT!!!

Sew ... WHO will be the one to step up and organize getting quilts to our east coast neighbors? WHO will put the pedal to the metal and get to sewing?? WHO will be willing to do some overall quilting for those that can only piece a top? WHO will be willing to take charge of this project??????

I know there's someone out there who has this project laid on their hearts .... WHO will it be ????

I can help out but not able to organize. Maybe someone closer can get it going. I'll be happy to provide thread ,quilt blocks, pillowcases.

I have thought the same thing SS,think it just seems so over whelming,I mean where do you start?? I sit here with my heat,lights,bed,food and I just feel so awful heart sick for those that have been through so much with so much more to come.I would open my home and take a family in,I will do what I can to help what ever anyone decides.

I have some pillow cases I could send if we can find out where. I had them ready for the 1 million pillow case challenge. And I can get a bunch more done fairly quickly.

I need to have some quilts on hand for emergencies such as this, but unfortunately don't right now.

well ... until someone comes along to take on and head up this project, I will be sewing... making quilts and pillowcases ... I just remember how all y'all sent quilts for Joplin when they needed it... and how MUCH it meant to them that others cared about their hurt The quilts they needed... and the pillowcases were the topping

I don't believe this woman is a member of the HGTV boards but, Victoria Findlay Wolfe, has posted on FaceBook that she is organizing an effort to provide quilts for the people of New Jersey and New York who have lost due to Hurricane Sandy.

Victoria is a New Yorker and was at the Houston International Quilt Market & Festival when the storm hit. Her husband and family were in New York, they are fine just lost power.

Wonderful idea. I am really feeling for folks in Breezy Point losing their homes to fire. They have been through so much; 9/11 personal losses, plane crash there and now Sandy. Wonder if we could focus and concentrate on this one area? Going to be a long time rebuilding. Just a thought.

I think it is better to support someone in the area. That's what we did with the Colorado Springs Waldo Canyon fire, the Balstrap Texas fire and I think for one of the hurricanes this Spring. They know where they will be collecting things for distribution, etc... Chris

I know e-Quilter made and shipped quilts to Japan...myabe something similar will be organized.

I can make blocks or tops, but my quilting skills are iffy and S l o w... I make pilow cases too. Just sent 4 tops from charm swaps to a buddy in NV who makes them for foster kids and rest homes.

When the tornados came through our state, our chu8rch group made pillowcases and purchased pillows to fill them for the kids in the shelters. The ladies said that when you have lost everything, you should at least have your own pillow to sleep on in the shelter. Just a thought.

no... it would be pretty hard to coordinate from Missouri ... BUT ..... I'm waiting for the east coast gals to come one once they get their power back up and everything settled

Hi ladies. Decide if you want to commit to Breezy Point or make it more general. If you want to do Breezy Point I can accept finished quilts and pillowcases and make sure they go directly to the people affected. If you want to make it more general I can drop them off with a reliable registered charity to be distributed as they see fit.

I don't belong to a quilt guild and I don't have resources right now to finish any tops as my entire apartment including sewing supplies is packed up.

If anyone else wants to co ordinate instead thats fine with me, since my help might be more limited than some.

Our friend Debbie in South Carolina (scdeb) who heads up the yearly "Get Your Mrs Claus On" doll quilt project posted the site below where Erin at Patcwork Life is accepting blocks for the storm victims. Maybe that would be another option for us if no one wants to head up something from our board. I don't have time to make quilts but I can make some blocks & send her.

We are supposed to be having our monthly guild meeting on Monday but I am not sure the place we meet has power yet. I am sure we'll be discussing this issue. I will be happy to collect any donations and give them out to those in need. Not sure who that will be just yet. There are so many out there in need

I will probably regret this, but I can finish quilt tops if anyone would like as long as they send some backing, too. I can quilt and send to Jane or Lori.

Jane, after seeing Breezy Point, I'd like to send you a couple twin size and crib size quilts. Don't have much finished and ready to donate, but I'll send what I can.

I watched a lot of the news reports and just sat here and cried. My heart just went out to so many people. The Mother that had her 2 small sons swept from her arms, the 62 year old woman who lost everything. She was crying and saying "It's a bad dream I need to wake up. I just want to go home." "But there's no home to go to."

I can't imagine what DH and I would do if we lost everything-it's unimaginable! I realize it's just all "stuff" but family momentos mean an awful lot.

I'll do whatever I can to help. Just let me know what all of you decide.

I'm on the 4th row of a small laptop-baby or wheel chair size. Blue and white pinwheels. Kind of springy for NY, but I had 42 blocks all ready done in a box! How could I not use them!!! NEW INFO!!! HERE is a gal from NY that is organizing a huge quilt drive for the east coast... I've checked out her blog, she's Victoria Findley Wolfe ... a NY quilter who was at the Houston Quilt Show as superstorm Sandy struck.

They are needing QUILTS AND BLANKETS, HOMEMADE OR BOUGHT... There are cold cold COLD people on the east coast, and it's certainly not going to get any warmer...

The links below are for your info... they are asking for quilts & blankets ASAP... and this is being shared on facebook by MODA and Pat Sloan, among others .... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help out! I'm going to try to finish up a quilt as you go tonite and see if I can't get something finished up quickly...

AND if you look down Victoria's blog to the QUILTS NEEDED post, there's a place, that if you are a local to NYC area, and drop them off, then can make sure to get them into the right hands.

I will be sending quilts to Jane for Breezy Point and will also send some blankets to NY. My T's & P's are going out to all the East Coast. Sue

There is a video on her blog where she talks about the quilts that have come in already... Mr. Russi told her he needed 700 quilts for the Rockaways and she has already been sent 600... Quilters come to call as soon as the need arises! That is what I love about quilters!

I am working on getting the binding on a couple of quilts. Will get some more pillow cases made too (they also give people something to store their things in if they have lost everything). The needs in NJ & NY are great, but there are also people in CT & RI who may be needing relief too. I have not heard about folks in the areas that were hit by snow from Sandy - I hope they have the power back on.

So nice to see so many quilters once again stepping up to help.

I know a few more friends are working on them as well I know I'm not on a coast, but like others, my heart hurts for them... lots of pr@yers for our east coast friends

I pulled all my nickel squares yesterday ... drawers and small tubs. I didn't realize how MUCH I played back in Bingo Bonnie's nickel swaps! I then went thru my stash and pulled out a nice stack to wack Then I headed off to guild for a sew-in

While putting charms together for a 4 patches, another gal got bored making baby stuff and decided to pitch in. With her help, we got a totally scrappy charm quilt all laid out on the design board and 1/2 way sewn together. She then took the rest of it home to finish it last nite.

Today I'm going to her house and she's putting it on her long arm, and I will be piecing another 2 tops that I cut out yesterday. I went by to see our friend JOE AT FABRIC OUTLET (our stop on the retreat but) and picked up a roll of batting he had on special Joe LOVES to see quilters do what they love

So hopefully I will have a package to mail on Monday ... oh wait, that's our Vet's holiday ... on TUESDAY!

I love to see quilters hearts ... they ARE the most generous of friends Thank all y'all for inspiring me to be productive! It's been a while

My quilts arrived in NY, but they needed to leave a notice, no one available to accept at either address. I feel very sad, because they could be handed out . Now will have to wait til Tue to try to be delivered. Sue

Yup, got the notice I work 12 hours on Saturdays so wouldn't have been delivering til next week anyhow. Will post pics on here after I do so.

This morning I went to the post office to pick up the package from Sister Sue. Boy was I glad that the post office is only 5 blocks away!! She sent a HUGE box packed with beautiful quilts.

The person who was heading out to the worst hit areas today was not coming back into Brooklyn afterwards so wouldn't take me with him to drop off supplies. He was going to the VFW (Veterans centre). Tomorrow I will find out if they are in need of quilts and I will head there if so.

Someone else is working on getting me another transport to another area out there, as public transport is still shut down in some places.

Most of Breezy point is retired firefighters and police officers and almost all of them are being housed with extended family, and are safe and warm. I am sure they will enjoy having something personal to call their own tho.

I have a story from the first person to receive a quilt. A young couple, V & L were in their home which started flooding, ankle deep at first. They were trying to bail the water out when it started gushing in from the street outside - under the door and around the windows. It quickly rose from ankle to chest high. They were frantically passing their cats out the window to neighbours as the water pressure burst the door off its hinges and belongings started to wash away. As it surged to chin height on the woman, the fridge lifted up with the water and was swept across the room, luckily missing them. They escaped, and were unhurt. The first few nights they slept on the floor at L's job. Now they have a temporary apartment that is nearby my area, it was empty and undamaged. V said to me that she was very thankful to all of you and to please pass along her thanks. She also said how nice it is to be warm, and that she loves the reindeer on her quilt.

Jane I have quilts to be sent out. I will send what I have tomorrow. We have two more that are being quilted so there will be more to come.

If transporting the quilts is difficult for you, can you suggest another address for us to send them to?

I have a 2nd contact now as well, through the Catholic Church. I also trust the person who is taking food and supplies out every morning starting at 4am. So I may give the next box to him so he doesn't have to drive me back or worry that I am walking around alone.

He seems to have a good eye for spotting those who are not really in need. He said he had to mark some large bags of food because some people were lining up with carts more than once to get donations and he knew they were taking it to sell back to stores.

If you want to send it in to some of the other addresses listed on the message board that's fine too

Here's an update on places accepting quilts for our east coast neighbors ... there are LOTS of avenues to donate to, so pick one and help out, won't you ? Some people are donating thru their local church who are donating supplies and needs ... there's A LOT of work and help that the people of sandy's devastation need ... wish I could do more ♥

Here is another oppotunity to help if you don't have time to make a complete quilt. This lady is accepting 12 1/2" Disappearing 4 Patch blocks in florals & tonals that read like solids. It takes 42 blocks to make a quilt. I knew I couldn't make a complete quilt but certaintly can make blocks. If you scroll down to the bottom of the comments & click the "home" button you can see some of the quilts she's already put together with the blocks that have come in.

Our small charity group got together 30 quilts to send to the Acaica Network. I mailed a box of 16 today. We are so thankful that we could help a little. We will continue to do all we can.

I really like this block. I think I might try this. I have to pack tomorrow but should be able to fit in some sewing time.

SueB - I have an update for Breezy point quilts Will be working 12 hrs overtime tomorrow so will type it up on Thursday.

We had our little mini retreat last week end in odenville Alabama! The lady that runs it is the Alabama representative for the QOV. She gave us four quilts that had been donated to QOV but were bot suitable for QOV because of size and they have juvenile prints in them. I will mail these off on Friday. I finished my jelly roll quilt from our jelly roll race last November so I am sending it off also. I will just make me another one.

Cksvette made a quilt top while we were at Odenville out of a jelly roll and so did Mw8930. Mw8930 and I are going to quilt these after Thanksgiving and they will go out the following weekend.

Thank you goes out to all the ladies that donated fir batting, backing, and shipping. Tx wildflowe go ahead and get your blocks in the mail and I will build them up get that one going also.that will make nine(9) quilts in all that our little,wonderful,and caring group will be sending to Sandy victims.

I was just over on the Bumblebeans blog and read that they will be accepting quilts ONLY UNTIL DECEMBER 7. They've been just overwhelmed by the response and have received tons of quilts. Might want to take a look at the blog to see what she says.
