COF --- project purchased at Springfield Quilt Show - contact info added
.... boohoo .. at the rate I am capturing this skill of the Palestrina Stitch, I probably should have started my project on the $18.00 worth of dark blue batik with complex pattern in white when I was about 9. I AM the one that flunked shattle tuttin 101, for pre-beginners. This may fall under that category: 'What was I thinking'.

I cannot change 'things', but I can change how I feel about them. Me.
Oh Sandie it is going to be so lovely!! I am kicking myself for NOT purchasing one of those panels! I learned the stitch and now have to trace my own pattern. LOL
..I did see some lovely stencils at www.longarmconnection.com, that's the label on the pkg .. but let me suggest you start with something a whole lot less complicated and mark it with something that can be soaked out later - chalk pencil type will wear off way fast .. I do like that abut this one - I have not messed up the pattern. Yet!

Sandie, that is so pretty. It looks like it will take a while to finish but it is soooooo going to be worth the time you put into it.

Sandie, My guess is that once you have that stitch down, this will be your new "take it anywhere" project and it will be done faster than you ever thought. The same thing happens with the "shattle tutting". Once you get the hang of the movement and the knot slipping, you will do well.

Maybe doing the ribbon weave around the outside with the Palestrina stitch since it's a little thicker of a stitch and for the more detailed inside lines, regular embroidery stitching?
I think either way, you will be fine. Just wait until you have it all done, you're going to love it.

Since I missed seeing that project booth at the quilt show, does anyone have information where I can find designs or kits?
I know I could probably make my own, but sometimes it is nice to have parts done!

Sandie - your pattern is just beautiful - hang in there, it will happen. I too am an abject failure at both shuttle and needle tatting but I think I can do this. I've been looking at some on-line and hope to try one after the holidays.

If the start is any clue - this is going to be GORGEOUS!
Sandie, that is beautiful! I think I missed that booth too at the quilt show. You can do it! A little at a time and who cares if it takes you awhile. You'll have a treasure when it's done!

Sande and Mary Ann, Good for you to even start with the tatting. I just know from watching that it's not for me. I took the Swedish weaving class and not a success with that either. The weaving would be easier for me if I could SEE it! It does help to use an Ott light but still a challenge. Lena says to "hang in there".
Happy Stitching...Lois

I missed that booth too, but was that the stitch being demonstrated on the bus? Sande it's very pretty. I've admired tatting, have never tried it, and after watching the class would probably flunk out with you too!!

Sandi It's beautiful. Can't wait to see the finished project
I so wish I'd bought one of the pre-marked pieces, also! Your's is beautiful!! After doing the $1 sample, I made my own practice piece using a quilt stencil...now want to find where I can get one of those kits you bought. What's the name of it? [your link to the longsrm site didn't work for me]
Here's the sample I made [already posted it on the 'projects' thread]

....Sewloves YOUR SAMPLE IS BEAUTIFUL .. that batik is calling your name for more of this pretty stuff .. winter right on top of you - hand stuff is important now ???Did you hoop that or work with it loose? ... I did a little research - and the site that comes up opens at another called The Quilting Connection .. my little pkg label, used to close the baggy, was torn in opening - little did I know we might want that! this is what i found - that website at the bottom is the one I started with ...

I checked the site out and noticed that the Wholecloth patterns that they offer are some of the same ones as the pre-printed. The paper patterns come in the 16 /12 and 34 inch sizes. So if you wanted to trace and produce multiple blocks for a quilt this method would be more affordable and you can choose your own fabric options.
Think I better get some other projects done (due dates coming fast) so I can play with this new option.
Thanks Sandie.

Once you get to The Quilting Connection site, you would click on the pre-printed fabrics link to see what choices of pre-printed patterns you want. They list prices for plain fabric and batik in the descriptions.
The stitch was called Twilling at the show that the lady was showing anyone how to do. It is also called Palestrina stitch. There are several threads going with links to patterns and how to do it.
I know Ambher (ann) bought a kit and was showing people how to do it on the bus and I can't remember who else was teaching everyone. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Cr8tve1,

Sandie, I am sure you will finish it and it will be beautiful. I flunked the tatting also so don't feel bad. Love doing the swedish weaving. Keep smiling.
Boy Sandie... that is gorgeous...luv it....i must have missed that booth as well....I got hung up with the wool penny rug and other type of woolen kits....i will have to post a pic of the cute little pincushion , i just got finished.....too cute...now to decide which other to work on next....
Sandie, no I didn't hoop it. When I did the sample at the quilt show she didn't mention anything about hooping and didn't hoop the 1 she showed me how to do. I did this sample using a varigated #8 instead of #5 cause wanted to see how the thinner thread would look. I'm going to check out the Quilting Connection when I log off here...thanks for the info!
Cr8tve1, I was also showing a few people on the bus how to do this....it's a great hand project to do while watching tv!!

...SewLove - wasn't that your sample that made it's way around the bus? I thought it looked great .. wished I had seen the samples! Your thread looks really pretty ... I think this is going to be a fun thing for winter - and I always like something to carry along, like to guild and appts. When my mom was in the nursing homes after each broken hip I had LOTS of time for hand work - I miss that time; I miss my mom too.
