I'm curious why we go to retreats. Is it to get away from something? Is getting away the only way to focus on our project? We like to spend money? Is it the travel? Meeting new people? What?

Question:
Why do you go to retreats?

Choices:
To get away from life's routine
To see new places
To meet and spend time with other quilters
To focus on a particular project
To learn/ take classes
Other - please comment below

I've gone because I like the change in life's routine... new is exciting (sometimes)... I like to visit new places, and learning through the classes.

but I LOVE to spend time with other quilters and learn from them! That's why I like to go ....
it's the people that make a retreat so awesome

depends on the retreat - if HGTV, it is to meet the people on the board. If it is for my guild, I go to sew and socialize

I have never been to a retreat but if there was one in my area I would go just to get away from life's routine & to see new people & things that I hope would inspire me.

If the retreat was MB related I'd want to go to meet in person the people I only know through the board. sigh...maybe someday.

I haven't been to a retreat, yet. I really, really wanted to go to the COF in N.C., but wasn't able.

When (not if) I go if it's HGTV MB, it will definitely be to meet all the wonderful friends I've made here. Also, to learn new things. I guess really all of the things you posted apply, but my definite number 1 would be to meet and learn from other quilters.

I went to the very first COF retreat in MN and since I didn't know a soul there except from HGTV's board, it was a very brave thing for ME to do. I have NEVER regretted it for a min!! The friends I met there (and I still consider them my friends) were kind, caring, and SO much FUN !! Now when I am able to go, I go to see them again and meet NEW friends!! I can sew anywhere (and sometimes do), but it takes a COF retreat to bring together this bunch that I have so much in common !!

This COF retreat will be my first retreat. I'm really stepping out of my comfort zone to go to something like this where I only know you guys through this MB. I really want to meet and spend time with other quilters (serious quilters). I have a couple of friends that like to quilt but I wouldn't call them serious quilters. I'm really looking forward to the retreat.

My first was also the one in MN - scared to death Smile I actually joined the MB just so I could go....heard about it from another group and decided to "take the plunge". I don't do well in crowds, especially when I don't know anyone else. All I can say is "this scaredy cat has attended all of the retreats since then - I so look forward to them. Smile

I agree with Savd Sinner..exactly the same sentiments. To talk quilting/sewing and learn through speakers & classes.

A bit of it all for me, but the main reason I am coming to this retreat which will be my first is to meet all my quilty sisters Smile who have been so kind and generous and taught me so much the past few years since I joined the message board.

I have never been to a retreat and I am so looking forward to meeting everyone that I chat with and learn from on this MB. I would imagine that there would be quilt talking, sewing and learning at the retreat, but I am also looking forward to just being with a friendly group for some fun and laughter. Looking forward to meeting all of you. Pat

Like several others, MN COF was my first retreat. I had met Sassy Needle Pusher, so we went together. It was still a bit intimidating to walk into a room full of people we had never met, but from the very first second, I felt as though I was among friends I had known all my life.

I've been to every retreat since, and I can't imagine missing one (nearly had to miss Oregon due to work, but thankfully it all worked out).

I may have done some stitching at some of them, but I truly enjoy sitting and chatting (y'all never guessed that, did you?) and getting to go different places and see different shops and shows and getting to eat good food, and oh well, you get the picture.

I clicked 'OTHER' but it should have read...ALL OF THE ABOVE!!! Big Grin

I'm another 1 that went to the very 1st retreat in MN...was S~C~A~R~E~D out of my wits [even had an episode that cause me a dr's visit] cause it was soooooo OUT OF THE BOX for me...I NEVER EVER went anywhere by myself, let alone fly somewhere!!! It was just like Needlecrazy said "but from the very first second, I felt as though I was among friends I had known all my life." Big Grin I haven't missed any since!! Am soooo looking forward to Sept!!!

I've also been going to another retreat, about 2 hrs from home, twice a yr [spring & fall] for about 9 yrs and it's become like a family reunion seeing everyone again! This retreat is ALL about sewing...no shop hops, just sew sew sew, a little devotion & fellowship & LOTS of eating & more sewing! Big Grin
