I've been trying to use fabrics from my stash as much as possible and buy only what I need to go with what I have to finish quilts. I was doing pretty well until this week! Six members of my guild went on our own shop hop. There are few LQS near us so we made it a two-day trip. At the 6 shops we visited I bought (1) backings for two tops that are already done, (2) four pieces needed to finish already-started tops, (3) two pieces to go with fabric I already have for a couple of planned quilts, and (4) fourteen pieces to put in my stash. That last group was mostly FQs and half-yard pieces so the total yardage wasn't more than 6 or 7 yards but I sure could have done without.
We had a wonderful time, looking at and feeling the fabrics. Each shop was fantastic and we saw few of the same fabrics in the different shops. The bed and breakfast where we stayed was fabulous - we had a seven course breakfast (including brussel sprouts, green beans, and cauliflower!) that filled us up so much that we didn't eat again until about 4:00.

It sounds like you are still doing well. With all those purchases, most of them were to complete what you have already started (or started planning) and the last group is seed for more projects to use up the rest of the stash.
You have now done your civic duty to keep the shops open some more until the next quilter needs to purchase. If you did this every week or month it could be a problem, once a year is therapy and a blessing!
Just think of all the shops that would have to close if we only used our stash, then where would we be when we needed more? and where would the shop owners be without their shop income? Guess we should all go shopping at least one in a while.

That sounds like a wonderful two days and I am very envious !! Yesterday I went to our Fabric Depot for the first time in quite awhile--new monthly coupons in hand, credit cards in purse, even a small list of things I needed and walked out without spending a dime !! I must have a terrible fever (or already have everything) Maybe I need a friend to go with---HELP

pegsami, friends do make shopping a lot more fun. And they influence your fabric choices as well. There is one of my friends in particular who makes fabulous choices, sometimes I wonder why she picked a piece but then it turns out beautiful. I followed her around and watched what she chose - then I got a little of a few of her choices to add to my stash.
I know what you mean. Every time I walk past the guest room door, I look at the growing piles of fabric on it. I'm way behind in the washing and preparing to sew area. I was very good on our recent trip, but I did help out the economy a little bit. hehehehe
OMG I don't think you petted enough fabric...or you would have given more of it a home...
Pegsami...Take 2 quilting magazines for inspiration and a hot cup of libations and visit the closest comfy spot and call me in the morning if that does not break your fever.

By far my favorite part of quilting is shopping for the fabric! I'm probably better at that than actually sewing.
Sometimes I just have to go to a LQS & hug a bolt, like you'd hug a baby. You can't help but feel good with a bolt in your arms. I was at JoAnn's the other day & they were unwrapping the plastic from newborn bolts. It was all I could do not to squeeze 'em!
