Hello all,

I came across this quilt on ebay and it is a style of string quilt that I have never seen before. The strips appear to all be the same width, but with planning as to their placement. The diamonds that are created by the triangles that are sewn in creates a design that I have never seen.

Can't post a picture here since they can't be copied from the auctiva link, but you can see all of the pictures at the link below.

Enjoy!

That is so lovely! I could see me trying string blocks for that one. Of course, my scraps would give me something more like this

That's it, May! I couldn't get the picture to copy from Auctiva. It was hard for me to tell how it was constructed, even on the detail pictures.

Love your picture, Evelyn. Hope to see a picture of what you come up with if you decide to give it a whirl!

Wow! That is so cool!!! Just think of all the quilts that could be designed that way!!!!! amazing! Now if it just connect to the Accucgo Cutter and slip into the automatic piecing machine and come out on the self-ironing board! Whohoooo!!!

Very cool. I think the one in the photo is appliquéd on.
The computer generated one is nice too.

I think that if you cut the wedges for the diamonds all the same, they could be sewn onto the two sides of the string block and then the quilt constructed as usual.

Looking at the way the batting shows thru the worn spot in the diamond in picture #8 in the link Lisa-TX posted I think the diamonds are probably sewn in as Needlecrazy suggested.

I haven't read through the comments but now that I look at it..Bonnie Hunter made a quilt or two from that pattern. It's in her shirt tails book..i.e. quilts from old cotton shirts. It's very similar...just a little strippiness on those side pieces..I fell in love with it and bought the book at her trunk show. Here it is: http://quiltville.com/virginiaboundclasslist.html

Love that look from Bonnie Hunter! Strip-pieced the diamond wedges as well. Super job.

Love Bonnie's quilt with the neutral strips. The antique one is sweet with the blue strips making squares and the diamonds narrower. I have dozens of 1 1/2" neutral strips left over from a long ago project. giving me ideas! TFS

Could it be done quilt as you go if the diamonds are pieced instead of applique?

I love the turquoise one:

Is this done by laying a turquoise strip diagonally then sewing strips on each side. It's so precise that it looks appliquéd after the fact.
