Looks like we have 43 Participants - Feel free to post pictures of your hearts as you sew long.
INSTRUCTIONS To sign up, please send me a PM with your full name, Address and email addy – this will be needed in order for me to send you the pattern.
We will be swapping 6" Crazy Quilt Hearts. For each person who signs up I will be emailing you the heart pattern. The pattern being sent measures 6.5" across, giving you 1/4" for the seam allowance. I tend to hand baste my seam allowance in as then it is much easier to take out when completed. I realize there will be some distortion of size due to printer formats so these measurements do not have to be exact – just keep them as close as possible. I have found that if you make one large 13” square CQ block you can then flip it over, trace your heart design, cut the pattern out and end up with 4 hearts. To help with any fraying, Fraycheck is helpful. Please baste at least 1/4" seam around the finished heart – this will not only help with the fraying but also give a great stopping point when it comes to embellishing. Also, you might want to zigzag the edges. Hearts are to be pieced on muslin for stability and ease of working with a variety of fabrics.
One thing I would like to mention – I realize there are some people who smoke but many of us have allergies and we would appreciate it if you could possibly refrain from smoking while working on your hearts – Please and thanks
ACCEPTABLE FABRICS Silks, satins, velvets, brocades, damask, lame, lace overlays, metallic finishes, tulle, glitzy fabrics, taffeta and oriental fabrics with the metallic threads running through them (basically any type of specialty fabric). You may use cotton but please limit it to one piece per heart. Please no blue jean or flannel fabrics. The color choice of fabrics used is your choice – make them all in the same color family or go crazy and experiment with various color schemes.
Embellishing your hearts is going to be the fun part! Be as creative and imaginative as you like - just have fun. All heart seams must be embellished. Some suggestions for embellishments: hankies, charms, buttons, beads, lace, jacquards, fancy trims, silk embroidery, ribbons, hand stitched embroidery and cross stitch. You may machine emboridery but please limit it to maybe one seam - 2 at the most. Please sew on all embellishments – NO glue. When embellishing, anything goes - whatever you heart desires - whatever you think looks pretty together.
A Crazy Quilt Heart set will consist of 6 hearts. As the hearts are relatively small, putting them together will not take too much time so I am giving you all 2 months to work on them. Maximum number of sets: 3 which means you can make up to 18 to swap if you are on a roll. Just remember, you will receive as many back as you send in. If you change your mind, please let me know ASAP as I do not want to have to return anyone’s hearts back to them should we not have enough players.
NOTE: If this is your first time in a Crazy Quilt Swap and you are a newbie to CQ, you have the option to send in just 3. The decision will be yours as to how many you feel comfortable sending in 3, 6 (or 12 if you really get into it 18 )
MAILING INSTRUCTIONS When complete, place your hearts in a large ziplock bag (indicate # of hearts) and include a card with my name & address (PM me) on one side and your name, address, HGTV name & email address on the other. We all want to know who made the “beautiful crazies” so please be sure to sign the backs of your hearts with your HGTV name and where you are from.
Mail your hearts to arrive to me by JUNE 1st (NO later)in a sturdy envelope. Please include a self addressed envelope (stamps only) to cover the return trip home. If it is easier for you, send me a check to cover the postage and I will take care of it for you. Once your CQ hearts have been mailed, please let me know and also how many you are sending and I will, in turn, let you know when I receive them.
With little more than a month to go I hope everyone is having fun working on their hearts. We have been seeing some beautiful work here - ya'll are doing awesome! At this time I would like for everyone to check in and let me know whether how you are doing?
Oh, my apologies, while going through last thread I did not see Bluesnail's pretty hearts -awesome job!!!
I finally finished my 15th heart. Still a long way from my goal of 38! Tomorrow I will be have some eye tests so looks like any type of CQ is out of the question for tomorrow LOL! Maybe ther reason I need the eye tests is because of all the hours my eyes have been glued to CQ LOL!

Five done and the sixth started, but DH doesn't want me to give away one of the completed ones. So I guess I have to make #7 to have a complete set to send to Nicki.

I've got 2 fondations done (1 I've started the hand stitching)...w/ my limited CQ supplies, it's hard for me to design them so they are NOT the same or that I like (a couple foundations didn't turn out right )...lol!

Zippybuns...we used some of the same laces!...Yeah!...Yours are stunning!...can't wait to see what I receive when this is over! Everyone is doing such a good job...
I am working on six. I will post a picture when I get a little more done. I have been busy doing my outside work while it is nice. Suppose to be colder this next week and will have more time to work on my hearts. Carolyn

One done. Save all your little silk ribbon scraps. The little piece above the buttons on lace is just three little 2" pieces gathered and filled the empty space.

So... Saturday was a gorgeous day here and I worked out in my gardens for about 8 hours. Sunday came.... raw, rainy and my body was feeling the after effects of working out Saturday. I could hardly move! So... what do you think I did? After breakfast I crawled back into bed to get warm and what happened? I found myself completely surrounded with tons of CQ goodies so there I sat Alllllllll day long just CQing away. Finished embellishing 7 hearts - what a blast - guess my body needed the rest as I feel all rested and ready to tackle the yard again.
Here's my favorite one to date. Call her my little "Purple Girl"
