I use a Mac, so for me it works to export my picture to the desktop in Jpeg format, and medium size (there also is a second line to select medium) save it with the name of your choice (resized) then select it like normal when you want to post it.

Others use the program Paint, but I don't know which way that works. The directions always look complicated to me.

If you have Windows7 you can go to your pictures, open the folder with the picture you want to resize, right click on the file name of the picture, choose resize, and select a size. ("Small" works well for the pictures I post here.) That will give you a smaller version of the same picture. It will initially appear at the bottom of the list of pictures so you have to scroll down to the bottom of the list in that file to find it initially. When you come back to the file later it will have been moved to just above the original.

I used to use Paint but find this way much easier.

I do use Paint - but I import directly from my camera and resize before even saving it to my computer. Each camera is different for the percentage to resize to get below the maximum allowed here but once you know how much that it is - it's super simple.

I haven't tried the resize functionality with Windows 7 - will give that a try for those times when I can't remember the term "Paint" - not even going to let you know how often that happens Smile I can't get a shortcut on my Desktop for Paint for some reason so I always have to do a "search".

I love having alternatives.

I find it easier to browse to my picture, right click on it, and select "open with.." Paint is right there in the list!

Bozie, I tried to do that but there wasn't anything that said resize. Probably doing something wrong. Did get it resized in paint.
Thanks.

Linda, I'm glad you were able to get your picture resized. Not sure why the Windows7 didn't work for you. It's so much easier - might be worth another try. For me when I RIGHT click on a picture file name I get a dropdown menu with "Resize Pictures" as one of the choices. A left click on that gives me this screen.

When I right click on a photo I get a drop-down box the has "edit" on a long list. Click edit, and the photo opens in Paint.
Wonder why it's different? Mine OS is also Win7

I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager - much easier to work with then Paint. That program came with the MS Office Suite.. so if you have that software, you can search the MS Office Folder for Picture Manager.

I have Windows Vista on this machine so don't get the drop down Bozie mentions..

Karen, if I click "edit" in the drop down window the photo opens in Paint for me too. But if I click on "Resize Pictures" (seventh item in the list) I get the window for resizing.

No "resize pictures" here.
Some are different. Maybe the different versions?

I do get a list that starts with "Open" if I right click on a folder name rather than a file name but the rest of the list still isn't the same as yours.

Just saw this on another thread that KC posted. It looks like an easy way to resize.

I use the program Irfanview. You can download it and install it for free. There is a feature to resize, plus it has all kinds of other editing feature (crop, remove red-eye, sharpen, change to black & white), etc.

It's a little bit to get setup on your computer but it'll give you more versatility in the long run! Good luck with whatever method you choose!

I want to say thank you! This really helped me resize my pics. Usually my pics are so small & hard to see. Now they are great.

Thanks!!!

That avatar had way too many pixels so I used paint to reduce it to 88 x 113. I THINK it can be copied from my post, saved as it is there, then reposted here. Just checking.

Yes, that works. So Shequilts, if you want a smaller version of your picture to use as your avatar you can just copy it from here (right click, choose save as, change the name or not as you wish, and save it to your computer) and use it as your avatar. Smile
