I am afraid to try the stacked 4-patch posey block with my good LQS fabric bought specifically for this until I try it with something I don't care so much about.

I have a Christmas print with different snowmen all over it- navy blue background. Think this might work? Haven't measured the repeat yet. Also have some harvesty pumpkin material with a 12" repeat. What width strips would I cut?

    Help............................. And TIA!!

It all depends on the fabric's print. Is it medium-sized figures with a bit of background but not too much space between them? Is there color and movement in the pattern?

You could test them yourself. Cut out a 4-inch and a 3 inch square from a file folder or cereal box. Use it like a window. Line up a ruler along one side and then place your open space template along the ruler, moving it along to see how the squares will look when cut.

As mentioned many times on this board, don't cut them too large. I'd say anywhere from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 strips, depending on the pattern.

3 1/2 inch strips will give you a 6-inch finished block.
4 inches will give you a 7-inch finished block, etc.

Good luck and have fun with it.

How did the fabric work Pat? I have some new fabric for the posie block, it's a floral with a black background.
By the way Pat, Quiltaholic wants us to go visit, its pretty far but a beautiful drive through WV, VA, and NC - would you be interested? Not right away mind you, sometime in the future. Just think of all that quilt talking we could do.

Love to- just would need to know ahead a bit to arrange schedule! Life got in the way wo far today, but I'm just about to start cutting away on the fabric, so I'll post and show a photo (bad or good) because I should be able to scan it into the computer and size it down. (That's the only way I know how to do it!!)

They look good to me - you can't get the full effect until you have a whole mess done. I'd go for it!

Okay- Now I'll confess! Red Face I bought 2 of the patterns for the 4 patch stacked posey blocks on sale and gave one to britgal (who made up her first quilt top out of them within like 30 minutes!!lol! Wink)

I got involved with making up some Christmas projects including a pillow that I am making kits up for our ladies' group at church - so far over 40 of them! Eek

So, obviously, there is Christmas fabric everywhere in my sewing area (on all horizontal surfaces!LOL!) And I haven't been able to find MY pattern for these silly 4 patch blocks!!!WAHHH!!!! Frown
So, with all the pressure on, I tried to run back and forth from my computer in the kitchen with quiltbea's tutorial to the sewing room to do each step! The result is what you saw. I didn't take the time to pin carefully either and I wasn't sure where to cut!

But, now I went to LQS and purchased a new copy of the pattern and after supper I will open it and try doing it with the directions!!

Of course, this means that I will immediately find my other copy of the pattern! Big Grin

And your problem with these blocks you showed, is what? They look fine, seem to be done correctly. You did good.
