The ivory or bone items is a cuticle pusher believe it or not. Looks as if it made its way into the sewing box, being repurposed. That is a pair of tweezers on the left end. And you got me about the unusual scissors.
Would love to have that screwdriver for my machine.
You made some terrific deals and finds with your shopping.

Great finds! LOL about your seeing the wooden spools & your having only heard of them - boy, am I feeling old!! We used to make doll furniture out of them & paint them to string them when I was a little girl. I recently met a group of moms who were amazed that snapdragons could "talk". How funny that I played with empty wooden spools & flowers instead of millions of toys. LOL! Well, that's another post, I guess.
Anyway, have fun with your, ahem, "vintage" goodies. Glad you shared the pics with your "vintage" friends.

LOLOL ohhh comeee onnnn i am having fun going thru them though! On some of the spools there is a rich silk thread, just gorgeous! I think when i'm done with the spools i am going to make something decorative with all of them!
Oh I just saw something from the 80's listed as "vintage" uh oh folks...time is marching on. Wooden spools were just yesterday. Uh oh....I feel an old wave washing over me. I wonder if the scissors had a screw in them to keep them organized somewhere...screwed in place????
ewwwwwwwwwwwwww garter belts Remember them? And sewing on snaps and hooks and eye???ugh.LOVE those cards of buttons, though. Would be beaurtiful in a shadow box.mmmmmmmmm

I also played with the wood spools and the flowers. I was born in Washington and we would make the snap dragons talk and make doll flowers with the dogwood blossoms. Fun times. I remember the brass silk pins too. Boy-your buy sure brings back memories.
I knew I felt "old" but didn't realize I was "vintage"!
I have some of the same (that were my ... ahem...MOTHER's) and display them in a shadowbox and the spools in a jar...
would love to sit and chat more....but after THIS realization today......I think I need to go lie down and take a nap. Suddenly, I'm feeling very tired!!
I think that cuticle pusher was re-purposed as either a stiletto or for needle turn applique - the toothpick thing. I THINK the screw in the scisssor was for keeping the blades tightened - ask the scissors guy when he goes to Joanns. The screwdriver came with a sewing mqachine .. and look at those BRASS silk pins!!! and speaking of talking foxgloves, we also had spears made of fern - long stems and furled fuzzy top end.. the queens anne's lace for bouquets ... and please don't pick the Trilliums as they will never bloom again if you do... I'm from Oregon..
That funny looking thing with the screwdriver tip was also used to open cans of paint. Kept from messing up your good screwdriver. I used to have one of these things and only used it on paint cans.
I think those scissors are buttonhole scissors. The notch was to keep you from cutting the bartacks, or going too far. Don't take this as absolute, I'm doing some guessing here, never used any like them.
I just looked at the scissors again, I think the screw was to adjust so you wouldn't close the blades too close to the fabric that you didn't want to cut.

I almost cried when they went to plastic spools! Empty wooden spools had so many uses. Anyone have a grandmother who replaced the broken knobs on the lids of her saucepans with a spool? ;0) Ah, memories! The wooden spools with thread that I still have are in a basket in my sewing room.
OK, now I know that I'm old!! "Heard of wooden spools, but never saw any". You dear child!! LOL
Wooden spools bring back such good memories for me that I've kept all the ones that I "inherited" with my Grandmama's sewing machine. I'm sure the thread is rotten at this point, but I can't bear to part with them. Also have a few cards of antique buttons and trims (especially rick rack - must have been big in the 30's and 40's). Prices on some of them are incredible: 3 buttons for 19 cents? bias tape for 8 cents!
So someday when I'm gone, somebody will get a great find at a garage sale, just like you did, Talia. Claudia hth
