I put in my vote. And have my first hexies swap ready to head to the post office. (42 sets) My two cents about batiks - although I love the finished projects with these fabrics, I do not think I will participate with batiks. The fabrics themselves are so different, even within a fabric family. And I would be very concerned about the prewashing. For this first swap, I'm going to do a tote bag with my hexies. It's gonna be fun seeing all the different colors and putting them all together.

Pat, I can understand your concern on batiks. Like cotton fabrics, there are lots of difference in the quality of fabrics, from low-cost, thin fabrics with a plastic feeling to high-quality quilt shop fabric.
For the batiks, the swap would use smaller prints in the better quality batik fabrics. If it would help, I would be happy to post pictures of suitable batiks if anyone would like to see them before deciding on this theme.
Just remember for the TRUE 30's repros, this is for only genuine 30's repros, not just small floral prints that look like repros. You will find "Circa 1930" on most selvedges, and you can search the following websites for 1930 reproduction fabrics. Just remember the prints we would use would be small scale prints with no animals or novelties prints.
Well I have voted and will be waiting to see the results!!

Looks like the 30's repros are ahead...
One question: If we should go with the 30's repros, do you want to stick will all pastels or add in some of the **darker* prints? This message has been edited. Last edited by: KC1930,
???larger prints...can you show what you mean...in relationship to the smaller in relationship to the 1" side hex... I guess I'm just confused

I'm confused @?@ about "all pastels or larger prints?"...what does that mean?

Sorry ladies, slip of the old fingers. I mean "darker" prints, such as navy blues and blacks.

Just HMO, but I think including all colors would be nice. Not all 30's repros are pastel, so how would you draw a line about what colors are not included? For example, I have some that are red, bright yellow, orange or violet--they are not pastels, but very pretty all the same! I vote for let's include 'em all as long as they are repros!

Any color thirties is okay with me.
I was also wondering about animal and novelties when you wrote, "Just remember the prints we would use would be small scale prints with no animals or novelties prints." Some general 30's repros have little animals (bunnies, scotties, etc) and things that might be called novelties (I think I had some dancers and some Empire state buildings, once upon a time). If they are in the right size scale, would this type of 30's be allowed?

I have posted acceptable and not acceptable prints by scale on the hexagon blog:
If all the players who sign up would like to use the dark or children's novelty prints, I am fine with that, however it would have to be the majority rules on it. Just make sure your scale is pleasing to the 1" hexagon size.
In the photos I posted, you will see a 1" paper hexagon on each fabric so that you will see how it can get lost on the larger prints with open backgrounds.
Nice cupboard, KC. Can you tell me where to get a filled one just like it?

At my house--I have eight of them, but the other seven are so jammed tight with fabric that I need to take out the entire pile to get out one piece.
My goal for 2013 was to take out the fabric in each cabinet and make a save pile for future projects, one to cut into Quiltville quilt sizes, one to cut for charity quilt projects and one to donate.
Since I am MIA with my finger, that is on the back burner. I have, however, purchased a F & P Klutz glove, but the bandage it keeping me from trying it out. Soon, I hope!
Sorry your hand is still an ouchie. I bought the F&P Klutz glove when I first read about your accident. If you "inspired" anyone else to try one, let me say that they seem to run a little large. I bought a medium, and I don't have dainty little hands. It is very roomy on my peasant hand.

As of right now, between the poll and emails, the TRUE 30's repros and Stashbusters are the top two themes.
I will leave the poll up until Sunday, Jan. 27th, so you still have time to vote!
Once the poll is closed, I will post the sign-up for the second swap here on the boards, on our blogger and Paperpieces.com facebook page.
After the poll. PM's and emails, it looks like the TRUE 30's reproductions and Stashbusters will be our two themes for our next swap.
Since many of you commented that you would like all colors of TRUE 30's reproductions to be included in the swap, how about small animal and children's novelties? They would need to be in scale to the 1" hexagon to be permitted. What do you think?
Small animals and children's novelties would be okay with me. They are so much a part of 30's style that they will fit right in with other 30's retros.
If others don't want them, that's okay, too. I'm flexible.

I voted for batiks but just read that batiks tend to show the whip stitching more because they are denser so am glad we aren't doing them. By the way - very sorry about your injury. I hope it heals very soon.
I have my 35 done but need to buy fabric if I do more. I did buy some for this. I just want to make sure I had the minimum completed at least.

I like the idea of using the smaller animal and novelty 30's repros. They really are part of the group. Looking forward to this swap!!

I have no 30's so it looks like I will be sitting out the next round. I think I will do more than I had originally planned for the first round and take the time during the second round to get some of mine put together. I will be checking in to see what the third round is. Have fun ladies.

Well it looks like the 30s will win. Not into to that style so I will also sit out this round but will keep an eye out for the next swap and will use the time to work on doll quilts for the donation project. KC thanks again for organizing these.
