I received my Keepsake Quilting catalogue today & saw this pattern/kit in it (page 84). I immediately thought about all of you who look for ways to use men's ties. I think this would be great! http://www.keepsakequilting.co...ISY-TABLETOP-KIT.htm Nicki We live in the home of the free...because of the brave.

I like that. I actually came across some of Phil's ties the other day. Thought I had thrown them out. So may try this to remember him. I don't mind coming to work. But that 8 hr. wait to go home is a drag. http://s182.photobucket.com/albums/x189/indycatCarol/

I saw that too but most of the ties that I have right now are the ones that have a picture at the wide end only. Some have an over-all design. I'll have to sift through them. I was surprised how well they hand washed! They are all open and pressed.

Oh, yeh! I have made 1 out of my deceased hubby's. Thought about stitching it to top of a pillow. He had so many that I have enough to make 1 for myself & 1 each for my son & daughter. Would make a lovely table topper too.

This quilt I made with my Father-in-laws ties. I think the dresden plate is a great pattern ![]()

Nik- I have a friend who works for our LQS and she made a Mariner's Compass out of men's ties. It turned out great. She also teaches the class on how to make a Mariner's Compass. Sue

I have a whole rubbermaid tote full of ties that was given to me by a friend whose grandmother passed away. I want to make a quilt with them someday. tinbren...did you take the ties apart or just sew them together?
|
Janice, I opened the back of the ties and took out the stiff linning I left the pointed part sewed to the satin linning. to maintain the point. then sewed them together on the sides. the points are hand stitched to the quilt. and yes the ties were different sizes. I wanted to maintain the look of the tie as much as possiable on the large Dresden. on the smaller plates I used the tie material and made dresden blades. I did iron the tie material to interfacing for stablity

Thanks tinbren! I will make sure that I remove that from mine when I get time to make one.
