You're Not In Kansas Anymore, Toto! --- Quilt Challenge - Sign Ups Open!
I have been trying to think of something new and fun to do for a quilt challenge and my mind keeps going to The Wizard Of Oz for some reason!! I keep saying over and over, You're Not In Kansas Anymore Toto!! Too funny!!
So... this is going to be our next quilt challenge!
You will be creating a quilt that reflects the movie "The Wizard Of Oz"!!
It is going to be so interesting to see the creations that come out of this challenge! The opportunities to do so many unique and clever designs is endless!
Your quilt is your creation... NO rules as to how to create it... only that it HAS to be a quilt/wallhanging and it must be at least 36 inches square.
Photos of these will be due to me by December 28 and I will have them ready to show on the forum on New Years day, 2013. That gives you almost 3 whole months to make your quilt.
And as always... There will be PRIZES!!
So, who wants to play? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Quiltaholic,
I'm thinking too! DD#1's room is done in a Wizard of Oz theme and we have a quilt hanging in her room made by our very own alexemmarose--we love it, Colleen!

Q you come up with the BEST challenges...I would love to try my hand but if I buy any more fabric while I'm here my DH will...no he won't but I already have way more than will fit in my suitcase...even if I bought a BIG new one! I'll be shipping a lot home...

I was in town the other day and got mad about something that isn't like it is in Alabama.. I am still spoiled to the way things are where I am from. People are kinder and throw their hands up when you pass on the road... I always tell myself... "You're not in Kansas any longer Toto" when I get ill about things around here.
So when I started thinking about this challenge, those words came to my mind and I said WHY NOT! Just like needlecrazy did! ha!
City Sandie and LisaTX.. Ya'll need to quit "thinking" and jump in and 'do!".
And sister sue.. Talk that sister of yours in to joining.. Ya'll just can't work on your quilts together...but you could taunt each other.. lol

Hi Q! I want to play. I am sick of using my brain for school....ugh...I need creativity in my life, too. I adore that movie and would LOVE to challenge myself to a quilt. Now when my professor is droning on about statistics, I will picture him as the Mayor of the Munchkin City.....

Q, Sue and I don't need competition to taunt each other. LOL. Seriously, Sue is really excited about doing this and it would be really hard for me to know that she is making something and I won't be able to put my two cents in. When is the deadline to sign up?? Just might be thinking about it anyhow. Pat
This sounds like so much fun... but I am knee deep in UFOs and am determined to hold firm to finishing a bunch of them so that I can start 2013 with a clean(er) slate. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up though! You did get me humming "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" randomly yesterday...
Lisa...maybe we should jointly enter your daughter's quilt in this challenge! Just think of the variety of Wizard of Oz quilts to come up for viewing when this is over! Oh My!
Would love to make a new piece for this challenge but right now I am booked...thanks though to our dear Miss Q for constantly coming up with fun things for us to play!

Love this movie. So many symbols and messages. A favorite of mine is:
“A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others” ― L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
It'll be fun thinking and dreaming on this one. Don't they always show this on New Years Day? I remember how surprised I was when we got a color TV set. Now they use tge idea of black and white photography on commercials and political ads.

Susan.. We can show their quilt in the opening ceremonies on January 1st but it can't be entered in the competition because it has already been seen by the forum. These are anonymous until after the voting has ended.

Does papers floating around with drawings on them count as making progress? I need to fabric shop, can't believe I don't have the colors I want to use. Jackie

J Lu, I didn't join the challenge, you could send me a pm with a picture and I promise I won't tell a soul. Shhhhhh, can't wait to see what you all come up with. I know Sue grabbed a piece of fabric out of my stash, but I don't know what it looked like--she took it while I was out talking to DH. Now I don't know if that is legal or not, maybe I'll report her to the "Quilt Police" LOL We actually share our stash taking what we need for our projects so it works out in the end.
J Lu- glad to here you have your quilt in progress. It sure is a good feeling to know that you have a plan and you are well on your to finishing it. I know that is the way I feel. LOL Sue

I had a great idea a little while ago. Yeah, right. I thought the theme was Alice in Wonderland. Where in the world is my head?
Okay, back to the drawing board.

Well T it's looking like its going to stop at 8. More prizes for us right girls. I had to put it on hold for a minute. I've been trying to get a baby quilt started for my friend that decided to go with a 2 year old theme. I can't find the fabric so I'm winging it. She's using that sweet pea theme. Any ideas out there. I was going to appliqué a baby in a pea sitting on a trailing vine of sweet peas. I hate when I can get started. I think I'm depressed.

We might have a few stragglers come in at the last minute. Sign ups dont close... Just if you get your quilt in on time is all that matters.
I think your idea for the sweet pea quilt sounds adorable!

Discussed this quilt challenge with my 22 year old son-he had some interesting ideas on how to design the quilt. Looking forward to thinking on his ideas some more and see what happens. Sure would love to have some more players too.

I now have an idea that actually is Wizard of Oz — not Alice in Wonderland. Maybe that's where my brain is.
