The other day a 'free pattern' Marion posted was called 'Garden Song'. It wasn't the best quilt I've seen posted from that site. Colors were wrong or something. And why were there stars in a garden when birds were flying around. Yeah, I know, star flowers.

I knew it had to have some merit so I played with the basic pattern and I still didn't get it right. Don't have the right fabrics in my virtual fabric palette I guess. But here is how I interpreted that pattern. It really is a neat pattern once you take the fabrics away.

Top photo, the original pattern. Bottom shots are how I tried to interpret it.

Look what happened when I got rid of the birds and changed the fabrics to a seasonal theme.

The pinwheel effect of the original was lost but there's some neat looking stars, I think. And I like the pattern itself.

You know, Sandie, I looked at that and reminded myself that we don't always hit the mark and someone spent a lot of time and had some pride in that piece. I think it was just tooooo busy so I kinda cleaned it up a bit. I hope the designer/quilter will forgive me.

Here is the pattern once again.

Thanks all for your comments and it do make a difference don't it when you fiddle around with someone else's pattern.

The Autumn one is my favorite. And they are maple leaves. You can put anything you want in those squares. Several patterns were tried but I liked the leaves.

The Xmas ones are nice too. I love both the tree patterns.

Thinking about the pinwheel effect I went back and tried it and the only one I liked it with was this one.
