The trouble with using a fat quarter is you have lots of seams. Yes you can get tons of yardage using small amounts of fabric. I'm glad to see she gave Shelley credit but her link is incorrect.

Shelley also has a chart telling you how much fabric you need to make xx amount of bias binding.
