I don't. Mine are all over the place but at least they are all in the one room, just in different stacks. I find if I organize them too good I destroy my organization when I start looking for something in one of them.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough to require much organization. Mine are just in a stack on a shelf. I do put books on bottom and magazines on top though Wink The stack is still just eight or so inches high though.

And of course the one you want is always in at the back or down on the bottom of the pile.

It sounds kinda funny, but I put them on book shelves. My sewing room had built in bookshelves. I also bought an inexpensive kitchen type cupboard. I keep my thread rack, machine attachments, my notebooks with printed patterns, etc.

ETA: the cabinet is on the right...

I have mine in a cabinet and they are alphabetized by the title of the book. That may be the most organized thing in all of my quilting supplies Roll Eyes. Off to work on my sewing room so that it will no longer be classified a disaster area.

Organize? My books? Huh?

They are on a shelf, does that count?

Last Spring I went on a foolish binge organizing all my books and mags on the bookshelf. Books were arranged by type, i.e. scrap, nickel, technique, kid quilts, etc. Mags were all sorted by publisher, and chronological. Patterns/designs/ideas printed from freebie sources were finally organized into three large 3-ring binders with divider labels. What a disaster -- I couldn't find a thing! And I ended up reprinting several patterns that I knew were in a binder but couldn't locate! So now I'm back to a stack of mags, books, and printouts about 10" high on top of an end table with sticky notes marking pages that I fondly call my "inspiration" pile. But I do know exactly what's in the pile, lol!

I don't know what I'm worried about...just had a momentary librarian lapse there. You're right...when I'm organized is when I can't find something. All I actually want to find is the Small Quilts book mentioned in another post tonight....I think I would have to organize (if I did it) by type, since I can never seem to remember names OR the alphabet. Sigh. I might remember by author....maybe...

jbk65 your room is beautiful! I want to jump right in there and sew up a storm!!!!

Oh I do tend to remember by date of when I wanted to do a project....so I know that in the stack whatever would be 1/2 way down, etc... It would be so much simpler if I could remember the alphabet. Or names.

I have my books on a bookshelf also ... actually a couple shelves... my fundamental books are on 1 bookshelf, then on another are my seasonal books, patterns and magazines... then all my "fun" books are on their own shelf. My magazines are all sorted by kind, and for the most part, were sorted by date also... and some still kinda are. I do have a stack of magazines on the bottom shelf of what I read and haven't filed back yet.

Now to show you how ANAL lyzing I can be, I even cataloged all my books and magazines and typed it up on the computer....... I count that now as a big waste of a couple days Eek

Come have fun with us at the 2009 BOM ~~ LOTSA FUN!

I have mine in a two drawer file cabinet. The top drawer has the books standing up so the spine can be read. The bottom drawer has the magazines that I want to keep and the individual patterns. My books of machine quilting patterns are in the George table drawer.

computer printed goodies are in plastic sleeves in binders separated into catagories, quilting designs, crocheting, sewing projects, block designs, but they all need to be redone since some have been shoved in groups instead of the right location. The binders are in a tub that "travels". Usually down behind the cabinet where it is hard to reach!

My quilting books are in three book cases in the master bedroom. Plus underneath the low chest of drawers at the end of the bed. Also on a bedroom chair and in a big plastic storage box in the basement. They are accompanied by all other craft books. My Son says I need to take them out of the book cases as they are so heavy that they may fall through the floor. There is about a forty year collection. I tried to keep them organized into catagories, but that didn't last. LOL. Some I will keep, but others were only for reading once. My Son suggested They go to the local library. I have tried to keep my books in great shape. Some we sold on ebay.
If someone ever wants to organize a book swap, count me in.

Mine aren't organized, but they sorta are. I have a bookcase in my stash closet. The books I use the most are on the top shelf...books I use the least are on the second shelf. Other than that, they are in no particular order. I can now see the bookshelf - I have only 2 or 3 rolls of batting left.
