LOL I've already started the gift list. After helping in stepSs kitchen, they still need a lot of odds and ends.

I just love those ornaments and had every intention of making them this year - even bought the styrofoam balls back in September! I could have a dozen for next year if I made just one a month!

Ellen, the thing is to keep on track and keep it in the front of your brain. I'm going to try to do better this year, sewing something like crazy to finish on Christmas is nuts.

I enjoyed the thread that was started last year on sewing something monthly towards Christmas. I started the first months pretty darn good but....... I did not finish a few items that I had hoped to for this year.

When I viewed the no-sew ornament, I sawq another video that intrigued me and after viewing that I went to the site of that video.

Here's some more great ideas. Japanese ornaments.

yep, I'm all for starting early, pattyj I agree with you...sewing like mad leading into Christmas is insane...LOL...and I'm thinking I'm gonna try to make items to sell at a craft fair in November...wish me luck

I make those...make sure that you get the styrofoam balls that are smooth. You can get them at Hobby Lobby for $3.99 for a bag of 6 3" balls (same price as the others). The pins stay in them better than the regular styrofoam balls. When your fingers get sore from pushing pins or the prevent soreness, use the side of your scissors or a spoon to push the pins in.

I think I'd be tempted to put a narrow piece of fleece or batting in the center, to fill the depression between the folded fabrics, before the final strip is applied.

Okay, I'm still finishing Christmas 2012...my son's quilt. Almost finished.....

But...I am preparing for next year...Cleared a dresser drawer, labeled it Christmas projects and putting my ideas etc.. in it to work on through the year, ornaments and stuff like that to make.

When the time comes around to start making things for Christmas, my previous projects are all packed away! I really like the ball ornament, but I make ornaments for relatives and most need to be mailed. Finally took a picture of some of the ornaments I have made in the past. If anyone has any new ideas I would love to see them as I have run out completely!

The smooth foam balls already have a hole for hanging. I use a wider frilly type ribbon that I get from Hobby Lobby to cover where the two sides leave a void down the middle. I start it at the hanging hole going all the way around and finish there. Use a corded ribbon...tie a knot in it, fill the hole with fabric glue, poke the knot in the hole and use the tip of your scissors to bury it in the hole then use a pin to hold it in...bury it. You won't have to worry about it coming out.

I LOVE these ornaments! Have had styro balls for this purpose for several years! Getting started on them early in the year would be IDEAL!
I also like the one that looks like a pine cone...

I had thoughts this Christmas of making ornaments for my DGSs, so they could start their own collection for their adult lives. Didn't make it. But, I can still do it this year, now that I have the idea.

Perhaps it was in some other ornaments you made but don't have a photo of, but where is the infamous folded quilter's star? You know, three strips of 2" fabric folded into a triangle then placed together to make a star? Have you done an Ogee or Ukranian star? Those are simple to do. A couple of years ago I did Iris folded ornaments. Those are fun. I admit to acquiring an addiction to these. I made many of those this year as tags and decorations, changing the sizes.
