2008-2009 Crazy Quilt Round Robin

This is the sign up you all have been waiting for!

BASIC RULES
Everyone crazy patches a block and mails it to the
next person on the list. Everyone will be divided
into groups. I will put some newbies and some vet*rans
into each group. There will be 6-8 in each group depending
on sign ups.

THE BLOCK
Each person will crazy patch a block. The block should be
at least 18 inches square and no more than 24 inches square.
Last year we had one participanT send around several smaller
blocks that she made into a purse. It is okay to do something
like that as long as ther area isnt over 570 square inches.

Each participant is responsible to do several seams and
patches on each block. One thing i did, was to count seams on
the block and divide by the number in your group. Also, make sure
you do seams in all areas of the block. We each have our own style
and if you do all your work in one area it will show. All embroidery needs to be done by hand.
Absolutely no glue to be used on these blocks. Hot fix crystals are permissable tho.

Each person will have approximatley 3 weeks to complete their
work on a block. I will be setting up a mailing schedule after
sign ups are complete.

I need each person to:

email me at: brinnsmom@gmail.com
I need your name, screen name, address, daytime telephone number,
evening telephone number and email address

Sign ups until october 1st and blocks will be mailed out on october 15
to the first person on your list

GENERAL RULES
Keeping in Touch
Sending out frequent updates during the rr helps everyone keep
track of where the blocks are and what people are thinking
as they work ont he blocks.

Please Do The Following:
1. Email me or post to the thread when you send out a block
and when you recieve it.

2. Please mail all packages priority and put delivery confirmation on it

3. If you go on vacation, have an accident, illness, or an emergency
arises, please let me know asap.

4. Please treat each block like it is your own. Please keep the block
away from food, drink, animals, and small children. If you smoke, please
refrain from it while working on someone elses block. When you are not
working on it, please keep it in the original packaging. It is NOT A
GOOD IDEA TO TAKE THE BLOCK TO THE BEACH, ON A TRIP OR ON VACATION!

GETTING READY TO MAIL

1. Piece your block. Use fabrics of your choice. They can be fancies or all
cottons. Last year we had one done with all solid cottons and it turned
out beautiful. The block can be one huge block or several smaller ones put
together.

2. Write your name and address on the back of the block. Last year i wrote my info on a cloth
label and serged it to the edge of my block.

3. Wrap your block with tissue paper, bubble wrap or batting to protect any
beads, buttons or embellishments.

4. Put your block(s) in a large ziplock bag and write your
name and adress on the bag in permanent marker

PLEASE INCLUDE IN THE BAGGIE

1. A copy of the group list with your name cirlcle on it. As you work on other's
blocks, cross your name off the list before you send it on.

2. A small notebook or sheaf of papers so the crazy ladies can make notes of
what they have done, type of thread, pattern of stitches etc. Pleas make these
lightweight due to postage. Also please sign the back of the block in the
area you worked.

3. An index card with the address visible of the person you are sending the
block to.

If there is a theme to you block, please note it in the instructions for
your block. If there is anything you "dont want" on your block please
make note of that too.

LETS HAVE SOME FUND WITH THESE BLOCKS

LET THE SIGN UPS BEGIN!!!!!!

Also please ask if you dont understand something.

Tami

Rae... you'd have to beat Quiltingnewbie over the head a few times with a wet noodle before you could make her understand that she does lovely work. Elaine... glad to see you making the plunge to join this swap - you will do an awesome job and will love it!

Last pic is the 2nd block I did for the same swap, there were 3 of us who were in both groups. This block was done for my daughter.

Any of you sitting on the fence jump right in because you won't regret it. It's a very wonderful and rewarding experiance. And here I am almost talking myself into joining.

Even after all my talk I may end up in this swap too.

Nicki,
That's why I posted the pic nothing shows how great the work is like a picture does. This is making me so excited for everyone who joins. Rae

PS ... ladies these blocks do show how I did them by making 4 seperate blocks and then sewing them all together. It is much easier to do than trying to make one huge block.

I did that with a block I am working on for a friend .. it was rather awkward but it came out ok. I still have work to do on it this is an old pic of it before I began embellishing it.

I so wish I could join this swap, but I really don't think I know enough about this to do it yet. But you can bet I'm going to make an effort to learn before the next one.

Darn, darn, darn.

I know I am a freak for this and so addicted, I was talking about it in email and within typing 4 sentances I have my block planned out and am joining. With this idea in my head I will never be able to let it go.

And quiltingnewbie, it's funny because in 7 days I will be here 2 years and guess who started me in this addiction? Miss Nickie herself Cool. I have been so blessed with her friendship and then all the other ladies I have met since joining. And it all began with a swap she hosted for CQ blocks.

Tami - I am offically joining!

Addictions ... if you have to have one CQ is perfect! Rae

Katiemedarlin, I was brand new to CQing right around the first time they did this. They all talked me into playing, and boy am I glad they did. I learned so much by seeing what the ladies before me did and examining every block that came my way. I am sure my work was not perfect, but it was great fun and I know everyone loved their blocks! So join away and learn while you play!!!

Katie.... I have seen your beautiful hand work and know you will do a wonderful job. Remember, you will only be working on a small area of each block and not the whole thing. Please reconsider joining as I know you will enjoy working on all the blocks and learning so many new techniques.

For those of you who are feeling a bit like a chicken and too scared to jump in, I promise you that you will not regret it. It is a wonderful learning experience and one that you will cherish for a long time. Last year we had quite a few newbies and everyone did an awesome job!

After the blocks we just did, I'm so addicted!! I so want to do this, but I've never done a Round Robbin before. Not sure exactly how that works. Do we only make one block each? Need a little more info.

OK let me see if I understand this-someone mails me a block and I pick out an area and do some CQ on it and send to the next person on the list? And I make my own 18" block or 4 squares that can be sewn together to make 18" and I send it to the next person on the list and it goes to each person in my group and they all embellish it. So when it gets back to me-it's done? How much CQ do I do on each block?

Pam
