I will be attending the Scottsdale Arabian Show next weekend. I am curious if any of you have ever gone or will be going....?

Also, any major quilt shops I should visit?
i will be in Queen Creek. I don't know AZ at all, so I have no idea where it's located. (haven't "googled" anything yet)

Thanks

Here's what I found near the Queen Creek area. It looks like you will not be too far from Scottsdale & Mesa. Maybe you can find some time to get away & check some out.

There are a number of quilt shops near Queen Creek I've attached the closest. If you like Batiks Zoe's has a great selection. Enjoy the horse show if you have any other questions let me know.

WOW - so many quilt shops in close proximity to each other! So jealous. I have a couple of shops in my area and they are both an hour away. Living in that area would be like going on a shop hop whenever you wanted to. Did I tell you I am jealous?

I grew up with horses. And now I am a lucky volunteer with F.T.E.A., a horse therapy program that assists disabled children and adults take lessons. I am currently working on a panel quilt for their annual fundraiser.

Your trip sounds like so much fun. If there are vendors/booths, see if there is a Path International Centers booth to learn more about equine therapy programs. If you are interested in volunteering in your area, you can google them and find a great barn of sweet, trained older horses.

And I hope you find some Native American theme fabrics. They are not easy to find. I just started a EPP project with 7 of those fabrics I had in my stash. Btw, I used that quilt shop app yesterday, and it put me two miles away from the shop. So keep phone numbers handy.

Can't help with LQS's in AZ, but I have loved horses since I first saw one. My Dad said that one of my first words was "force" and that I would get so excited. He was in the military,so I didn't get my first horse until I was 16.(What a "sweet 16 Birthday" that was!) I was in the military and met my DH who was also serving. I got out to be a "stay at home Mom" and got a job at the stable on post. He made the mistake of saying, Well we could get a horse, I guess. Now he's retired and we have 10 horses, with 2 babies coming in the late Spring. (I can't wait, I love the babies!) We have Standardbreds and DH races some of them. We started by adopting (from the Standardbred Retirement Foundation) a retired racehorse, he's my "Sweet Baboo". He is 23 now and has taught me so much. If you have the "crazy horse gene" in your DNA, you will understand "he's the horse of my heart".

Are you a "horse Mom" or are you a horseman? When asking a horseman about their horses, it's like asking a Grandmom about her Grandchildren. LOL

Have a wonderful time at the show! Should be quite a treat!

Expecting up to 6" of snow tonight - I really hope I can leave to get down south to see this show and hit a few shops.

Tonya: I am so jealous of you. You are going to be doing 2 of my favorite things. I did own a thoroughbred for about 15 years, but had to sell when finances and building of houses around me came into play. I miss him very much, but reality stepped in. so to go to a horse show and explore new quilts shops would be like heaven to me. Have a great time.

Here's a picture from Diamond back stadium after the snow it was all gone by this morning but you can imagine how it freaked out people here. Right now it is 11:00 am and it is 48 the forcast for the weekend is the low 60s. I know this sounds warm to you but if you are going to be outside and it gets windy you may need at least a sweater.

My GD has two horses, Snipes and Stormy. Have fun at the show! You should find lots of southwestern fabric. I brought some in Tucson last year.

I read where a golf tournament was canceled near Tucson because of snow...snow on the cactus desert, very unusual weather!

I've been to Tucson twice and I love it. Unlike here in Atlanta where I have to drive an hour to get to one quilt shop, they seem to be at every corner in Tucson. It was really nice!

If you make it to an In and Out Burger, eat one for me, lol! We love this place. I know there is one in Scottsdale and 3 or 4 in Mesa.

Love horses, grew up with one. An old nag, all we could afford but I loved that horse.

The bud commercial was just on as I was reading this where the horse finds his first owner. puts a lump in my throat every time i see it.

When my mom and I were down in Tempe about 5 yrs ago we went to the 3 Dudes Quilting shop. It's a little store but they had a lot of nice fabrics/patterns/etc including southwestern and patterns from local quilters. The "dudes" and other store workers were very friendly and helpful.
