Valentines day was eventful. I made dh the cutest card with die cut hearts in purple and orange, my favorite colors. Oh, and a little spot of red (blood red). I ran a needle through my finger several years ago, it was painful and I knew I would never do anything dumb like that again. All I did was reach for a little piece of loose thread near the hopping foot. Well duh, I did it again. Yikes, it hurts like crazy and it was the same duh moment as before. Of course it was a brand new titanium needle, so that's what I get for being mushy and sentimental. Dh said he loved the card and will treasure it always.

That sounds so painful. But the card sounds really pretty, even with a touch of red.

Ouch, ouch, ouch! Take care! This may post twice because I used a trigger word in the first post. I also once sewed a perfect stitch through my fingernail in 1964. I was using my mother's cabinet machine with a knee lever. I turned around to see the TV and my knee hit the lever. Pres i dent Johnson was about to announce who was going to his running mate. I knew then that I either had to give up sewing or politics. Sorry, Hubert Humphrey, you just weren't worth it.

Oooooh, sorry to hear you had a repeat of that horror! My mother wisely told me to remember that the needle doesn't go anywhere but straight up & down. It can't hop forward and grab your finger, so you don't have to watch it as you sew. (Those were the days before zig-zag in every machine.) You have to watch your fingers instead. She said the presser foot should be my reminder & my barrier. If I'm touching the presser foot, I'm getting too close to the needle and I'd better beware and reach for a stiletto instead. So far so good, but I'm afraid there will come a day when Mom's words don't ring in my ears and I slip....

oh Joyce does that bring back memories I'd rather not think about. Did the needle break? Hope this doesn't hold you back too much. If life hands you scraps make quilts

Reminds me of when I was nine yrs old. Parents bought a sewing machine. They went out on Saturday night like people used to do. I was told, "Do not touch the sewing machine!" Of course I did, and promptly ran the needle through my left pointer finger. Took me awhile, but finally figured out if I turned the wheel, the needle would come up. Never did tell about my sore finger....Joyce aka joyus

ooooh I am so sorry! Hope you heal fast... This is one thing I have never done...yet... hopefully I never will.... but when I was about 6 I was washing my doll's clothes and wanted to run them through my mom's ringer on her washer....and my whole arm went in there...no damage...mom came in and hit the release lever...*sigh* "People are like stained-glass windows. He better treasure it after all the pain it has caused you.lol Nurse your finger back to health now.

Oh my, get yourself a long pair of plastic tweezers at an office supply store to do things like that. Better the plastic than you!
|
Silly me, I had a pair of tweezers sitting right beside the sewing machine. That would have been way to logical for me. I made myself feel better, I went shopping and bought more fabric. Didn't hurt a bit!
