What are your crafty/quilting goals for this week? 1-18-13 Sign In/Join

This is our new weekly thread. It's a place for us to share our goals for the week. Your goals are yours, and can be as simple or as complicated as you want, as specific or as general as you want.

I met last week's goal of binding a cuddle quilt for a friend's retirement gift. And I will be back later to list my goals for this week, as soon as I decide what they are!

So what are your goals?
Holly

Continue working on my 2003 siggy quilt.
Also sort and start working on a bunch of blocks I started and never finished. I seem to be really good at that so I'm hoping this weekly goal setting is going to help me.

This is working out so well for me. I exceeded last week's goals. My goals this week are to sew my kitty blocks together and decide on a border for it. I also plan to make a gift for a friend. Not sure what I will make but I need it for Saturday the 26th.

I finished my goals too. My baby quilt and the funky chicks are both ready for quilting. My new goal is to finish the top of a king size flannel quilt for my DD & DSIL.
Then I have to look for the strips to finish two UFO's for a guild challenge. I won't get them finished this week but I need to look for the strips and get it ready to sew on.

This has helped so much. It is just that extra push to get them done. Thanks for starting this thread.

Great work last week ladies! I love seeing all of your projects.

Well, I did not meet my goal as the quilt I was going to work on is still sitting on the sewing table exactly in the same shape as last week.

BUT, I did make six chicken pin cushions and have matched up about 10 different sets of fabric to cut for more. I am finding short sewing spurts are fitting my schedule better at the moment-I can make one chicken, if cut out, in about 15 minutes.

My goal this week-work on chicken pin cushions.

I think I missed last weeks thread with a sick son who is now back to his normal self. I've been busy playing with and loving my new Juki 2010Q sewing machine! I've got 2 UFOs at the binding stage, a Valentine's Day table runner UFO and some FMQ practice sessions on my to do list.

Let's see, my goal for the coming week is to clean the coat closet. Mail out some packages to QWL. Sew some BOM chain blocks( finally made up my mind on what I want to do) and make that new "fishy block" from fatcat patterns. I love it and think it would be a fun quilt to make.

I'd like to get all 5 of the remaining blocks finished this week but I am starting work on Monday and I'm afraid that will seriously cut down on my sewing time...So maybe I'll try for 3 of them. Plus I am getting Pvilleou's QOV quilt on my frame and hope to get it done this week too Smile

OOOHHHH! Is it that time already???

I've been playing with my scraps/crumbs and still haven't started quilting the 2 donation quilts. Can you tell I hate this part? I thought I had until the end of the weekend to reach my goal. DUH.. OK, my goal for this week is to put the scraps away and buckle down to the quilting. Why is it that I get such a neck ache and stiff shoulders from the actual quilting? I hate wrestling with those tops. I've tried the rolling up technique, I pin a lot and I try to keep it simple. Maybe my goal should be to actually DROP my feed dogs and try freemotion!

I almost finished last week's goals (posted pictures plus have 1/2 a heart block done)

Since Monday is a school holiday, by next Friday I hope to have 3 heart blocks done, cut for the mystery quilt someone posted for the 27th, and finish all my chain blocks for the board BOM (have 3 done, the rest cut and partially assembled, even after having to trace the paper piecing part twice since I forgot I am downsizing the blocks!).

Finished last week's goal of machine stitching the binding on a quilt. The hand stitching will happen as time allows.

For this week : I'll set a goal to get 15 more needle books made for my guild. And I'd like to finish Step 1 of the Easy Street quilt. Smile

I think these 2 things are very do-able for the week.

ETA .... Easy Street Step 1 is done! Now to find the right color of thread for those needle books.

ETA again .... Needle books are finished too. It's nice to set and meet goals!

I put a couple of pictures and my report of this past week's work on the previous thread.

DH and I will be leaving next Thursday to drive to FL for a couple of weeks enjoying the sunshine. We are tentatively planning to visit Savannah for a couple of days before coming home so we will be gone a total of three weeks. I am taking along some handwork but am not setting specific goals on how much to get done.

l did met 3 of my 4 goals for last week. Only thing l didn't get done is putting away the squares l've been cutting up. l thought l had cut up all my scraps then l started cleaning off my fabric shelves and sewing room table and found more.

So, this week....

1. Cut up more squares.
2. Put squares away.
3. Empty basket of odds and ends and put them where they belong.

4. BUY NEW SEWING MACHINE! And learn to use it!

This week I plan to start on my pincushions for the swap...if I can decide what to do! Big Grin

My goal this week is to get the mugrug done.
Repair a quilt top that when I washed it some seams came apart. I was getting it ready to send to mcpatches for the quilting for QOV. Now I have to fix it!

Well this week, I hope to cut out fabric for 2 charity quilt tops, and finish sewing a top for my aunt, and get some things in the mail to cross the pacific...and since my car goes in the shop first thing Monday morning I should be able to get everything done...with the exception of the mailing...we shall see about that one...it may work out that everything including my aunt's top gets mailed on the following Monday.

Yippee! I made my goals for the week plus some. Goal of 2 guild blocks did 5. Goal of emptying bookcase/bench. Did that & moved it out. Then moved fabric armoire to different wall, emptied big bookcase and re-loaded it in it's new spot. And moved in my 2 new-to-me storage cabinets and now 2/3 done reloading them. Next week's goal is to finish organizing room so that my huge yet to be covered ironing/cutting table can come in. Can you tell I'm happy!!! Oh, and grin a little....Maybe I'll even sew a little!

I was a slacker when it came to my goals this week. I did get my 5 sets of hexies done and i got one of the bom's I wanted to do done, so I did make some progress.

This week I need to do the following:

Make 5 hexie sets
Finish my Row Robin and get it mailed off
Get some work done on my embroidered hearts
Work on sorting my small pieces of stash

That's it - I have too many other non sewing items to get done.

Forgot to write my goals for the week here...
Work on our basement... sorting, organizing, donating items not used for a long time.
Work on some birthday blocks for an exchange I'm in.
Start string blocks as leaders/enders. I've always wanted a string block quilt and I've sorted fabric to start one.
That should be enough for this week!

I did meet most of my goals : 2 mug rugs made, row robin finished and mailed. I didn't get borders on charity quilt, but I did get 7 pillows pinned for sewing. My goals for this week : borders put on charity quilt, sash 20 small pictures to bring them to 8.5" and start pulling fabrics for the next row.

And l finished my DGD's birthday quilt that was on an earlier list! Smile

I finished putting the siggy quilt together, the piecing I had to do blends in really well and by the time it's quilted no one will know it's there. At least that's what my quilty friend told me and since she does really good work, I believe her.

My kitty blocks are sewn together and borders decided on but everything else is on hold. My iron just quit. Doesn't heat up at all. So until I feel better and can go find a new one, I won't be sewing at all. Why can't someone make an iron that last? I've tried expensive irons and cheap irons and none of them last.

Deb, I agree with you on the iron. They are not built to last, even when you buy expensive ones. I just get a new when it is time and know that it's life expectancy is shot lived. LOL Sue

Actually, I sort of hope the one I have now doesn't last much longer! It does fairly well on clothing but not on quilt blocks. The size and shape of the steam holes causes them to catch on the corners of whatever I'm pressing and wrinkle them up. They also get hung up on any thick spot such as where two seams meet.

I have to throw this in about irons. I also have had expensive and cheap irons. I had a really good one about 10 years ago, it quit, was disgusted with irons, bought one for 99 cents at Goodwill, I still have it and it works great! lol

I just want to get this elephant appliqué quilt top finished, quilted and bound! Now, since this is my first time to this thread, tell me how this works!

Do I put out a plate of milk and cookies before I go to bed and when I get up the quilt pieces will have magically been put together and finished so I can get on to a project that I want to try??

Hope so, otherwise it may be a very long week! Lol!

I probably won't get back to sewing related stuff after lunch (have to house clean and lesson plan), but I have 2-3/4 heart blocks embroidered, and instead of using the green & cream fabrics for the mystery next Sunday, I decided to do the alphabet quilt BOM found here http://www.claudiasquiltshoppe.com/freebom.htm and finished Jan-Aug of last year this morning, minus the sashing and the applique for the attic window.

Gardenpat, if that works out for you, please let me know! I could stand for someone to eat the cookies and keep them away from me.

Okay, on the iron thing, mine also seems to be losing heat. Not good. I'm frustrated, but I'll just go buy another one.

Goals: well, the 96 leaves to be appliqued are finally done, and some of the grapes are appliqued. More are ready, then I need to make 64 purple circles for the larger grape clusters. I know, I know, I'm a glutton for punishment. Then the flowers. My goal for the week is to get at least all of the small grape clusters done and start the flowers. Not sure I can do the rest of the grapes since the iron is conking out.

Goals not set but met: finished the top for my applique society chapter's opportunity quilt. Would someone explain for me why a pattern writer would tell you to cut sashings but not tell how wide? I had to recut twice before I was satisfied with the size.

Great job this week so far everybody. I have all of the sashings on my king size quilt for my DD & DSI. Now I have to measure it and see what size I need to cut the borders. She seen this quilt at a LQS near her and wanted one like it. No pattern was needed.

The girls came over last night for our monthly girls' night out and they wanted to see my mother's quilts. So, there was lots of quilt flinging going on and I didn't both taking the time to put them away then.
