I was offered a shed full of old horse shoes from a couple with a farm where no one threw anything away. I'm also getting a load of older windows.
Of course I said I would take the horse shoes. Now what could I use them for? Any ideas are welcome.

Maybe put one in a little frame with a pretty background and a clever good luck poem?

And evidently four horse shoes are luckier for the horse than four rabbit's feet are for the rabbit! Wink

I know someone that screws them to boards and uses them for picture frames. She had them single and in groups of up to 4. NO, I don't have pics of her stuff.

I used them for some of my T2T windchimes with old silverplate. You can screw holes in the bottom fairly easy if there aren't already holes there, but if the top(open end) is super thick then it is impossible to drill through, only the thinest part can be drilled.

Being in the wild wild west out here in Colorado ( Smile ), I've seen some terrific gift shop items with horseshoes.

My favorite are the hook racks. 3 or 4 are laid flat and lined up side by side, in between those are shoes on their sides so that the other side becomes a hook. All welded together, of course.

Another idea is to put together horeshoe game kits -- let me tell you it's a lot tougher with real horseshoes Wink

There are lots of ideas for welded horseshoes but if you don't weld or have a friend who does that's not pertinent. I once bought a wine rack made with them for $5 at a YS that I later saw retailing for $99! Sold it in my store for $25.

One of the ideas I may do with some of my collection of old "shoes" is to glue fabric on them so it completely covers them. I saw this on some store website and they were selling them for an outrageous price. Advertised as paperweights or decorative items. I think it would be very easy to do with a fabric with some "give" or even by placing the bias correctly. They could of course also be wrapped with ribbon for a similar look. Or spray painted, then embellished with paint or whatever look you want.

I used to sell some decorated with dried flowers on consignment in my store but that's a very "country" look so may not appeal to all.

DH made curtain tiebacks for me out of some but of course it's more appropriate in the back of beyond where we live than it might be in the city... Wink

I've attached them on the sides of boxes - leave the round side protruding upward - they make great handles.

What about cutting out a piece of wood the shape of the horseshoe and attaching it to the bottom side, then in the center on the front side put a piece of cord and you will have some coaster.

Might make an interesting garden path if they were cast in homemade concrete patio block; or silicone to flat slate rocks; or even just laid in white stone as if the horse had just walked there!

We have a lady who wraps them in Copper wire with different beads and hangs them up like regular horseshoes here in Wyoming. They are Gorgeous!

Glad you liked the idea about coasters.
I was also thinking about hangers for baskets. Place one flat and one sideways and weld them together. It is very easy, fast and useful.

How about a wind chime? They are really neat, and the sound is great. Paint bright different colors for an eye catcher.
