    Hi Everyone,
I'm usually just a lurker here but you all seem to have such good ideas on a cheaper/recycling way to do things. I have a space in my kitchen, about 5 feet long and width could go to about 3 feet, that I would love to try to put some kind of cabinet with a countertop there. I rent an apartment that's old and has very little counter space and cabinets. Someone had suggested picking up a used kitchen counter and using it but not sure how that would work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Robin

An old dresser makes great storage... can take out drawers... add shelves... (*"*)

I would scour the thrift shops, garage sales, etc and look for a piece that might work for you. A dresser is a great idea - drawers for storage and the top for a work surface. An old kitchen table might work - use the space underneath and store things in old crates, baskets or decorative boxes. You might use wire shelving underneath and make a skirt out of fabric to put around the legs, hiding your storage underneath. I had a similar need in my own kitchen; I needed pantry space more than countertop space. I found a pine armoire and use that as my second pantry. Good luck! Let us know what you do!
