This is an example of trash to treasure. I found this antique sea chest at our town swap shop.

It was a hot day and DH did not want to take it, but I knew he would really like it so started dragging it out.

It did look pretty rough.

It was missing its top, had no handles and the bottom is more not there than there! (well a slight exaggeration.

We would like to have kept the original blue finish but too much paint had dripped on it to make that possible.

After many hours of work on the part of DH it is now a proud addition to our sitting room!

Besides stripping, scrubbing, sanding etc. Dh made a new top, new rope handles and the new heart shaped escutcheon.

We love the way it looks and are very proud of his work!
