didn't see that episode, but you can get a can of Frost glass spray Finish for glass that you can use on the inside of the glass to make it have that etched or frosted look. There is also 'etching cream' that is a harsh chemical that will permanently etch the glass.

Another suggestion, depending on the effect you are hoping for, is to paint the glass. I have a table made from an old window that I painted the panes different pale colors with acrylic craft paint. It was very inexpensive and very beautiful. I hope you post a photo for us when you get this finished.
