My BF and I are supposed to be going to see friends this weekend in Longview. It's about a 6 hour trip for us and now the people we're going to see are making it sound like we're just going to sit around and watch football all weekend. Frown

Anybody know of things (junk related or not - ANYTHING!!!) to do or see in that area?

Thanks for your help!

Hi, you'll be about an hour from me in Tyler. Be sure to check out the city of Gladwater on Saturday. They close down on Sunday, then drive 30 mins west to Mineola also on Saturday.
Then if you have more time you might try to come to Tyler. I could PM you my phone number and maybe meet up with you in town (time permitting). I know of a few places, and one really fun store is having it's open house. If I can't meet, I could at least give you some directions.

BabyBee,
Check out one of my favorite web sites
www.thethriftshopper.com
just type in the city and state and it'll give you a list of thrift stores, their hours, a map guide and phone number.
I don't leave home without this list.

Have an internet friend on another forum who lives there. I'll ask her and get back with you - although it looks like you've already been given some good leads.....

Thanks guys! My BF wants to play golf on Saturday - if he can convince his friend to play then hopefully I can get away (with or without the guy's wife!). Margo, I'd love to meet up with you! That would be so fun!

The wheels are turning now . . . . how to dump the friends and go junking on my own . . . . Wink

Here's what she wrote me - straight from the (Longview) horse's mouth!:

Well, seems like down here they are PROUD of their junk! lol

But here are a few places I've been to:

Betty's Antiques (it's a huge building and there are different sections of different people's stuff. They even have a bunch of junk outside too. It's at 414 E. Cotton

Then PittyPat's Porch at 3712 W. Marshall. It's much smaller but they have some good stuff but not what I'd call cheap but you never know.

Greggton Antique Mall at 3422 W. Marshall (just east of PittyPat's a little bit). They have areas for different people so you walk through and you never know what you'll find.

She said what was discouraging was that they didn't have ANYTHING listed in the Yellow Pages under "Junk" - it was ALL listed as "Antiques"! LOL

Hope this helps!

Yep some of those towns are pretty proud of their junk. Prices aren't real good in Marshall or Gladewater, due to their small town charm and main street antiques trade. They all know what their stuff is worth ;(

Hope you had a good time anyway.

Pittsburg, Texas is about a forty five minutes. You could come here and eat the famous Pittsburg Hot links, we have a couple museums, antique stores downtown. And, if you want to go to the state park to fish, or boat, there is Daingerfield state park and Lake Bob Sandlin state park. Sandra

Well, if we go back I'll just have to tell them ahead of time that I am going junking/antiquing! The couple that we stayed with live in a rural area and I didn't get a chance to go anywhere! Frown I'll also have to map out where I want to go - I was afraid I would get lost this time.

Thanks for your suggestions and help though - I will definitely keep the information! Smile

Longview has two or three Good Will stores. Don't forget to check out pawn shops - on your next trip...
