Anyone dabble in using twigs to make cool things ( besides wreaths) ? I was going to make some small prim flags and then thought of how I could fuse a bunch of twigs together to make something-- maybe a birdhouse, sign or something..any ideas or projects and hints you have partaken in with them?? Any ideas appreciated!!

My sister once took an old fan blade, and glued a twig on it. She then took some small, round, smooth stones and painted cute faces on them to represent our parents and each of us kids, and glued them just underneath each branch of the twig to make a family tree wall decoration for our parents.

I have a bare bird house that I am planning on "twigging" but I'm not sure if hot glue will hold up ??? I have some moss, too and a tiny wreath to put around the opening. Any help with the glue is appreciated.

One year I was going to make simple stars using straight twigs and wire but the twigs are still in my craft room! Another case of too many ideas! I'm not throwing them out, have thought of attaching them to a plain wooden mirror frame. Another idea I had for them is to use them in a floral arrangement.

You could also make a rustic-style vase by gluing straight twigs around a container with straight sides...maybe just a tin can? Tie a piece of raffia or strip of homespun fabric around it to finish it off.

I made this last year for my wall.Very simple-just painted some branches & put them on a old board.

I have made a small rustic basket to put flower pot in. I also have decorated terra cotta pot with them.

here is another for Fran I have had this pic for about a year thinking i want to try this. I was thinking either E6000 or liquid nails should work for the adhesive.

On decorating cents one of the designers had a large square of wood and had glued [ not sure if it was wood glue] asortment sized and looking chips of wood onto that square. For textured look. That was all. The thing they emphazised is that it takes a long time for it too dry. I guess you could crush your sticks.

The bird house above reminded me of the little fairy houses. Love them. You can definately use twigs on those. And then get really going into making twig furniture. Rembember the old chairs they use to make out of clothes spins. I'd love to see these if you try this one.!!

I made a little bed out of twigs for my great niece's dollhouse, and also made a quilt to go with it. When it was finally finished I just could not part with it, so I went out and bought her a ready made one for her dollhouse. I still have it after all these years.

Thanks for all of the ideas!! I am looking along the lines of furniture like items mostly as if I bring one more basket, vase of wreath in here it will be mayhem!! I am starting to appreciate a simple twig and its uses!!

Rose the doll bed is a cool idea and wonderful for a child I know!! Did you use liquid nails/silicone to fuse together??

I have a little chair made out of twigs will post picture in a bit. Cute as can be just found out in my garden stuff. I bought it at a lawn sale last summer the lady had made a bunch of them. Gotta go take a pic for you.

Here is a pic I usuall have a pot of flowers on but still to cold here. But you could also use indoors for a doll, teddy, stack of books, plant.

You could try to make a small table along the lines of the twig chair - would probably need to have something for the table top - maybe a piece of old barn board and then glue the twigs around the edges.


luv2junk - the twig chair is too cute. I need to pass it on to my dd as she is creating small furniture out of thick grapevine - sorry no pic.

Instead of liquid nail silicone, I would recommend GEII clear silicone for windows and doors. I have had better luck with it for outdoor projects.
