Hi all, I have an old window that I put mirror in to replace glass. I want to put old doorknobs along the bottom to make a coat rack. It is lang and skinny so at least 6 knobs will fit. Question is, how do I attach them? They still have the metal bar that they are attached to. Anyone ever done this and how did you do it to make them sturdy enough to hold some weight? Thanks alot.

SmileSorry Lee Ann I don't have an answer for you. But what a great idea. I can't wait to see completed pics.

I've seen doorknobs attached by drilling a hole (not all the way through the wood) in the wood the same diameter as the knob base and then supergluing (or gorilla glue?) the knob in the whole.

I have a long divided glass window hanging over my tub horizontally. I bought robe hooks and attached them to the bottom wood trim to hang towels.

As you have put a mirror in to replace the glass, can you mount the "window" on a piece of mdf or scrap wood to reinforce it? You'll get the look you want and the sturdiness you need, and it might make attaching knobs or hooks a bit easier. Good luck!

if you don't want to screw it on, you could use liquid nails or gorilla glue

This is what I do. Remove the metal bar that is still attached. find a dowel that will fit into the hole in the back of the knob. Drill hole in wood that the dowel will go through. Glue dowel in knob with Liquid nails, let it dry 24 hrs. Then insert the dowel into the hole in the window, slather the liquid nails in the hole and then on the knob where it touches the wood and let it dry 24 hrs. Be sure to wipe up any oozing glue before it dries. Do this for each knob and they should stay put. I'd love to see it when you are done.
