I am in the process of making a bench from a full sized bed that I got this weekend for $2. Yes, TWO DOLLARS! So, if I mess up my first bench, it's not that big of a deal. I'll just make it into something else. LOL Big Grin The footboard is too low to use for arm rests so it will just be the width of the seat itself. Anyway, I had my FIL who manages the local lumber yard cut the footboard exactly in half and I've attached it to the headboard. Problem is I am wondering if the sides come out too far. What is the average width of the side supports? Or should I say the average width of the seat itself? Thank you in advance!

I'm not sure about an average but I can tell you what ours came out to be.

It's 15 inches (sideboard pieces from the footboard).

I hope this helps you somehow.

Thank you! I will see how that measures out with what it currently is. But it sounds like I will be taking it apart and visiting FIL again at the lumber yard. That's ok, I need some polyurethane for some table tops to get them finished up completely. Big Grin

our seats usually measure about 19 inches in depth.
we cut our footboard in half, then take a little more off.
    good luck! take pictures!
