That's funny, I've found the best, made to LAST cookware in the trash. The thickest steel and heaviest cast iron, all worth **$. Still makes me wonder why people threw that away. No need to give it a second life...
So what could you do with a scratched old teflon frying pan?

Back in the summer, I discovered that the "tree rats" had totally destroyed the hose going from propane tank to burners on gas grill!! Was and inexpensive grill, only 2 seasons old, but I was P-d!! Only place I could find replacement part was at manufacturers site and would cost HALF of what I had paid for the whole thing.

I went totally RN/G and ripped out all the gas guts and turned it into a charcoal grill. New grill will be NEXT summer.

I'm totally into cast iron pans. Have to show great restraint when I see a crusty name-brand skillet at a yard sale or thrift shop. Have WAY more than I really need... from several different sizes of skillets to grill/griddle to Dutch oven.

ANYWAY, bought a gross name-brand skillet for next to nothing. When I cleaned it up, discovered it was cracked. Only spent a buck for it, so not upset. I put that defective skillet and another one of a slightly different size into bottom of old gas grill carcass. Used skillets to hold charcoal. Now it has two "burners" and space around edges for indirect cooking.

You should turn that story in if it's not too late... I think it's a great idea!

Cool challenge. Mine usually just end up being all-weather dog bowls.

But I'm mad at that mag.
Still waiting on my subscription copy and having a hard time not getting one at booksamillion. Mad
