I am getting ready to change the knobs on my kitchen cabinets and drawers and I need ideas. I have almost 40 to replace and I would like to come up with something unique, and cheap. I know that there are things out there that I could use but I can't seem to think of anything. The cabinets are oak and I am open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I did the old flatware as door handles and knobs once. Love that in a country kitchen. You could use wooden spools, paint the ones you have, the twig thing, bottle caps, buttons, almost anything can be used as long as you can but a screw of bolt head on it or in it. I could make you a long list but there is no end to the ideas
copper tubing
dowels
flat marbles
clay (design you own to coordinate color)
I gotta stop I wanna change all mine now Smile

Wow, those are some really neat ideas! Keep suggesting things, this is great! How would you go about attaching the flat marbles? I would love to have something like those old crystal knobs that were found on things years ago. Got any ideas of how to get or make a substitute? Right now I have oak cabinets and I had white porcelin knobs. I am ready for a change.

You can also try ebay or spray paint yours or cheap ones. If you curbside shop you could collect a whole bunch of different ones.

Here are a few ideas off the top of my head:
-cheap wooden knobs can be stained, painted, decoupaged, decoratively painted, metal foiled, need to do several clear coats for durability
-make knobs from decorative wooden shapes, lots at the craft stores
-small children's toys which could be screwed on
-small resin ornaments, haven't tried it but I expect these could be drilled and screwed on
-small china/pottery ornaments, could be glued with epoxy to a washer and screw, I'm thinking of the ones that used to come in tea, maybe Red Rose, and maybe that was only in Canada. I see them at yard sales.
-just throwing this out there altho it's probably not suitable for your kitchen but I've seen it on dressers, use 1/4"-3/8" jute rope, thread thru holes in drawer and knot behind. Mostly good for a nautical/rustic look.

My DH has painted old used metal knobs with white spray paint - could be any color - they look very nice.

I love old silver flatware bent and used as drawer/door pulls.

You might have a look around craft stores or HD type stores to see what catches your eye?

You can use a silicone like that GE II or use a
adhesive like E6000 and attach to flat wooden knobs found in craft section. For the crystal knob look maybe check out a dollar type store and see what you can find in the jewelry, or little girl accessories and see what could be drilled or epoxied on to something. You could also look for large rhinestones in the craft section or a large glass bead. I will try of some more ideas.... Roll Eyes

Thank you for all of the good ideas. Normally I can come up with tons of ideas but I seem to have drawn a blank when it comes to those cabinets.

How do you make knobs out of flatware? I have seen windchimes made out of them, but not knobs. Does anyone have a link that I can go to, or directions?

for the flatware, it's very easy, been there, done that Smile just bend them into a handle shape, drill a hole in each end, screw to door! you can also try target, they sell cheap knobs & have those repro crystal ones you're thinking of, also ebay sells them & you can even get old ones there cheaper than new.

Gioni--

Would you mind sending me a couple of links to those knobs on ebay? Especially the crystal ones? Also, would you happen to have a link on how to make the flatware pulls? I have a general idea of what you are talking about, and I have TONS of flatware to spare, but I seem to do better if I have a picture to go by. Thanks to everyone for your help!

I don't know how people survive without shopping on ebay. OR the computer, for that matter!

I had an old desk with white porcelain knobs and I added "stick-on" flowers from the craft store and then put a coat of poly on. They have lasted for years. There are a million stickers these days - since you are leaning toward the crystal look - you could probably find something "sparkly" to work....

Currently I have the porcelin knobs on the cabinets but they have a tarnished brass "button" in the center of each of them and stickers would not work. I would love to figure out something sparkly that did not cost an arm and a leg lol but I am clueless. Surely there must be something out there that I can use, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what it is.

There's a place in WV that still makes marbles, of all sizes. I'm sure they have many of the old Cat's eyes that would make great knobs.
