Ask how much longer before they're finished. Tell them you'd very much like to have the job completed by such and so day because you are expecting company. Many contractors work several jobs at once, much to the frustration of the homeowner. That's why it is important to work with a contract that specifies an expected time frame during which finish date can be expected.

And whatever you do, don't pay them until the work is complete. It is impossible to get a contractor to come back to finish things if they have already been paid. IMPOSSIBLE.
Bottom line is that you have to speak up. With these guys, it is the squeaky wheel that gets the grease. You can be pleasant and nice, but they have to know you are becoming unhappy with the time line.

Did they give you a end date? I know when my contractor was putting in our hardwood floors he gave us an end date. If they gave you an end date then ask them if they are still going to honor that date. But I agree the less confronting way to go about this is to say you are having guests coming and need the bathroom finished before they get there. That's something I'd probably do lol!
