We are re-doing our bathroom and are thinking about wanting to re-sell our home in the future. We have a 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom house right now. One of our bathrooms has a separate jucuzzi bathtub and a shower and the other one has a bath/shower. We were wondering whether we should put in a new shower/bath or just a new shower without a bath. Any advice/thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated.

this question seems to be one of the more popular I see on the board. You might scroll down to mseadog23 who had the same question and received many comments and suggestions. (last comment was May 16, 2008)

As long as there is a tub somewhere in the housel, if you want to opt for a shower unit with all the high techno features in the Master Bath, then go for it. Keep in mind that potential buyers need a tub for soaks, pets, and babies.

Sorry, but you are a little ambiguous. Which of these is the master bath, and which are you thinking of redoing?

I think the general consensus is the family bath should have a tub.

As far as the master bath goes, for every poster here that says they would prefer a shower only there is one (like me) that would kill for a jacuzzi tub, so if you are thinking strictly about resale and don't have a strong feeling either way I would say save your money and do whatever is most economical.

HOT DIGGITY...another tub person! Big Grin

ITA with Blonde. As far as tub vs shower for the master I think it's a really personal decision. I will say that the written consensus here seems to be shower in the MB. For me though, I wouldn't consider a house without a soaking depth tub in the master.

I DO agree that regardless of your decision the family bath needs a tub. My own personal want though is a tub in the master as well.

I am going through the same dilemma!

We have used our jacuzzi tub twice since we bought the house. Our bathroom is very cramped and we're in the process of hunting for stuff to redo it.

I THINK we are going to get rid of the tub and do a nice shower with glass doors and build in a seat. We thought that for resale a "luxurious" looking shower and vanity would be equal selling points as long as there was another bath in the house.

I wouldn't consider a home without a tub in the MB (or at least the potential for one and a separate shower). I am a bath person all the way. I also agree that the 'main bath' must have a tub so that families with little ones can bathe their children.
