I'm hoping someone can give me a suggestion for this - we recently bought our new home, I love it, but it has no door on the master bath. The door way is wider and much taller than a standard doorway, so hanging a door won't work. I'd like something that looks classy and provides a bit of privacy.
If your new home is brand new, I would contact the builder and ask about having a door installed. It could possibly be an oversight on their part. Don't know how much taller and wider than normal doorway, but what about a transom and french doors?
It likely wasn't an oversight - it is the latest "trend" in homes with master baths. The commode will be in a small closed off closet and the tub, vanity, and shower are open to view. Find yourself some heavy/rich looking fabric curtains to screen it off from view. How you will keep the kids/dogs/husband out while you try to relax in a hot bath is another issue!
It wasn't an oversite - the doorway is much much larger than average -its as Junk Collector says the lates "trend" at least the commode is separate.
Thank you for the idea - I had been toying with a curtain, but I'm not sure how it will look - a screen, but the hubby would just kill himself in the middle of the night
As far as actaul privacy - I haven't had that in more than 12 years, I don't think I'd solve that even with steel doors on the bathroom!!
We've been house hunting and have seen this an awful lot in newer houses and condos. Homes built in the past 5 years or so all have the same style. Unless you can come up with a way to either hang a door or retro fit a pocket door, curtains are the easiest, cheapest, and least obstructive way to go. Choose an accent color from your room and go for drama or try to make it feel like an enterance to a spa (bamboo or beads). Good luck!
I believe this plan is called an "en suite". The idea may seem enchanting, but I don't think so. I think the best way to go, for esthetics, is the french doors with frosted glass, having the doorway rebuilt to fit or using the top transom or window above the doors.

We have the same problem and put in a pocket door. It's wonderful! You can get the kits at Home Depot and Lowe's. Home Depot seemed to have the best selection of sizes.
