Hi. DH and I are beginning to research a master bath remodel. We recently viewed a neighbors in a similar size and footprint. They removed their tub (a jacuzzi) opting to place one cabinet with sink where the tub once stood and turning and enlarging their shower. The toilet was in the same place but a wall with pocket door concealed it. The second sink was on the original wall. This is not a large bath I might add. I have heard from others that removing a tub and enlarging a shower is the trend particularly if another bathroom has a tub and the adults tend to use showers more. Since resale may be in our future within the next five years, what are your thoughts about omitting a tub from our master bath? What say you if we enlarged the shower, enclosed the toilet, added a bubble tub and removed one sink? This later option has not been thoroughly investigated as I have yet to schedule a designer/contractor.

Speaking for myself, give me double sinks, larger shower and no tub in master bath. Neither of us have stepped foot in a tub in over 30 yrs. most of our friends are shower people- much quicker using less water and having to sit in lukewarm bath water. For resale purposes, having a tub elsewhere in home is more than adequate. If this is your forever home then do what works for you.

Same here, we have a tub in the guest baths. Don't need one in the master. We are planning a large walk in doorless shower in the new master suite. Sort of like this, but a little more rustic. Whether You Think You Can Or You Think You Can't..... You're Right - Henry Ford ![]()

Thanks ladies. Regarding the larger doorless shower, a friend did just that tho her master bath accommodates a corner bubble tub too. When I recently asked a bath furnishing showroom designer about the trend she was not fond of doorless showers for two reasons...they are COLD and some water does hit beyond the shower. I was so hoping to avoid glass and hoped for a doorless shower and will ask a local designer what she thinks this coming Friday when she comes for a consultation. If our bathroom was larger there would be no question as I would include a sleek free standing bubble tub as well as a doorless shower.
