Is it absolutely necessary to have 2 sinks in a master bathroom. Our master is so oddly shaped that we would like to only have 1 sink and that would give us so much more room. We need help so bad....

Function is more important over design or what is commonly wanted in a bath. If your configuration would work better with one sink, then I see nothing wrong with that.

Depends on how couples use a bathroom too. I cannot see DH and I standing side by side brushing our teeth or sharing other bathroom uses. We have one sink in the master, and another bathroom we opted for one sink and a large counter on either side. I would rather have counter space available than two sink holes and very little flat counter area.

But that is always a personal decision.

Ditto what Conrad said. We have two bathrooms with one sink each. I'd rather have the counter space; especially in a small room.

IF I had my druthers, have you seen those big spaces with his and her SIDES?! What a dream!!

I love having a double sink in the Master bath but in most of my previous houses we've only had one. It was never really a problem because my husband goes to work very early and is done with the bathroom before I need it anyway.

It's one of those nice to have things, but definitely not necessary.

DH and I are not in the bathroom at the same time so I don't see a need for two sinks. Counterspace is much more important to me.

I have two sinks in my master bath and one of them doesn't get used. DH uses the hall bath as his bathroom.

BUT, if we did use the same bathroom, at the same time, I would opt for the two sinks, unless of course, there was not enough storage space where you NEED the counterspace. I'm not big on cluttering up the counters anyway.

I also like the counter space, and choose not to clutter it up either (bottle of hand lotion and tissues is about it). But it seems just to have it available when needed is nice, and as it is usually cleaned of clutter it tends to make my whole bathroom seem more clean and organized.

I would think counter space is at a premium in a smallish bathroom, I know I never have enough space to put things down. But it would be nice to have a basin with no beard bristles.

One. Will two be using the bath simultaneously frequently? If not, one should do for you.
For more storage you might consider putting a cabinet (12"x15"x4') on one side of the sink top (vanity).

Any resale plans? Family neighborhood? If so, may want to go with 2.

You didn't post or mention the specific floor plan. Would the space planning work with 2 separate but smaller vanities?

If space allows, a double sink is generally preferred in a master bath. Cabinets come in vast sizes and regarding countertops, you might consider adding a shelf above each sink covered in the countertop material to expand the space upwords. This is what a friend of mine recently did in her multi bath remodels. Utilize vertical space via cabinet towers for added storage in small bathrooms too.

My parents' home had two sinks, and no one ever used the one on the left! We were never in the bathroom at the same time.

We just gravitated to the right sink for some reason! DH and I have only one sink , and have never wished for two.

Do what works within your space restraints and suits your lifestyle.

If resale is not within your immediate future, you'll be fine tho I still feel most working couples prefer two sinks. It depends on the couple's schedule tho. Also, if another full bathroom is on the same floor, this could help unless the family is quite large.

We are about to remodel our bathroom and I am removing a jacuzzi tub and dividing the sinks. Each sink will have ample countertops. The main bathroom will have a tub. If my master bath was large enough, I would include a tub.
