We have two bathrooms, one on the main level and one in the basement, which is seldom used. Both have showers. The main level bath has a tub with a showerhead & curtain. I want to get rid of the tub and put in a tiled shower, perhaps with glass walls. The room is very small and is a square, 7 1/4' x 7 1/4.' My husband is worried about resale value with no tub. We never use the tub and I want the bathroom to work for us right now, not a potential buyer 20 years down the road. We are not moving anytime soon. I say the person who is OK with just a shower will be the person to buy the house. We have no kids, are middle-aged and plan on living here a long time. Any thoughts on tub vs. shower?

Hi Elizabeth. We are in the final stages of remodeling our homes 2 bathrooms. We struggled with the same question and we were close to taking out the tub in lieu of another wonderful shower. We then thought about when we use the tub, even though infrequently, we bathe the grandchildren from time to time. I would miss that time, even though I know in a few years, they won't want Grandma near the bathroom with them. So the tub we put in is more "shower friendly" with a seat at the back of the tub and curved shower curtain rod. (I don't like shower doors on tubs).
The other tub use was for soaking after recent backside surgery. Uck-but it helped!
Good luck!

Thanks for the comments, Rosy. I like the idea of one of those smaller tubs and may be able incorporate that in our basement bath. Thanks for the suggestion and good luck to you.

if you were bathing kids, would you want to haul all that stuff to the basement to give them a bath?

We are going thru the same thought process, except in our master bath, and are going to remove the never used and too small bathtub in order to create a much larger and nicer shower.
