We are starting to make plans on our bathroom but we can't decide on a shower unit or a tiled shower. How long do tiled showers last? As far as grout and cracks are concerned. Do they leak easily?

We are just finishing up on 2 bathroom remodels. The question was the same. We opted for the cultured marble. You will not have to worry about grout and cracks. Although I think if done well, tile holds up well. The tile we took down was in great shape and it was 50 years old.
The cultured marble is very attractive and they will mix the colors the way you want them. It is virtually carefree-and that was our goal!
Good luck!

I've had both.. and I liked the tile... but I think you have got to look at your lifestyle too... we have a small 3x4 showe that's tile .. dd is in charge of it.. we have a 5x5 shower that is slate...in a hall bath so it's not getting much use.. then our shower is Austin stone 7x9... and it is very easy to care for.

Shower done correctly shouldn't leak ...

welcome to the boards..

rosy... dd used to teach in Denver.. Arvada... loved the area...

my mother's home has the original tile and grout & it's 65 yrs old.....Tile looks more expensive than the tub surrounds...and really tile isn't that difficult to take care of...the key is to take the 5 seconds to wipe the walls down after each shower - that goes a long way to battling soap scum!!
