I cut off the plant when the frost hits it and just lay it on the ground. In the spring I discard the plant, but keep the pods. I lay them on the ground and step on them to open the pod. There are hundreds of seeds in each pod!! I spread the seeds and it's not long before they take off. I share the pods with friends.

Well I don't want the seeds spread all over my bed so when the pods reach about golf ball size I cut them off into a zip lock. I leave it open to let them dry & they pop open on their own. Then store till spring & share seeds.

I love my Daturas! Have Moonflower, a lavendar one which is the smallest of them, double white & a tripple one that is very dark purple on the outside then when the opens the inside is white!! The thorn apple is completely different than any of the others...it's smooth! Not sure I will get any seeds from it but sure hope so. I have a ton of the lavendar ones if anyone is interested I will be happy to share with a sase.

Is this about Datura or Moonflower Ipomoea, the variant of Morning Glory?

Isblue, I'd love some seed too. If I can figure out how, I'll PM you to get your address. I only have the big white Moon Flowers.

Sure, Fredger. Click on the name of the person you want to PM & there will be a drop down menu for your next stem. There will be one line that says 'invite xxxx to a private topic'. That's what you click & take it from there. Just don't forget to fill in the subject line. Smile

I also cut off the pod and just let dry. Most the time they open on there own before I have to cut them . The pods are just full of seeds. I store my seeds inside , in a jar or baggie , and just plant them directley in the ground in the spring. I have white and blue moon flowers.
The blue moons have black seeds, the white moons have brown seeds. Cool plants. Love em Big Grin

I guess I'm calling my "moon flower" by the right name...except my pods have one or two seeds in each and that's all. I don't have a whole lot of pods either. Maybe I have some other type of night blooming flower instead of a "moon" one. I was told that this was a moon flower but the seed pods are rather skimpy. Anyone care to guess why?

Moonflower don't produce as much seed as a regular morning glory. Moonflower seeds tend to be larger in size and a little more likely to be fertile. These flowers are pollinated primarily by moths. Goods Luck!!
