Finally my N a k e d Lady bulbs are finished blooming and seem (at least to me Red Face) ready to dig and send so I'll have them in the mail tomorrow to two HGTV members living in CO.
I hope they arrive in good condition, are still fresh and ready to plant.
We've been waiting since MAY so it's about time!

hi nancymo, have you dug yours up yet? I have been waiting for mine to die back too. I think some time early next week they will be ready to dig up. But now the ground is so darn hard (clay)ugg!

Is there a secret to planting and growing Lily of the Valley? Ours only come up in the spring,I planted 10 last fall the only thing that came up 1 leaf, and it's stayed there all summer, and hasn't changed a bit. If I didn't know better, I would think someone had stuck something plastic in there. tia

Pam...shouldn't be any problem in your area. Just put it in a NE corner or North corner. Very little sun to full shade. I have a problem with the heat down here & keeping it. NancyMo sent me some excellent plants & so far so good. They haven't grown any, but they are still alive after 100+º most of our summer. I wasn't expecting much growth this year & I may not get many if any blooms in the spring, but I do hope they grow a bit next year.

And .... unless I'm confused about which plant we're talking about ( ~blush~blush~ common problem) Lily-of-the-Valley IS just one leaf, isn't it?
In the spring it grows one large leaf, maybe two, and that glorious sprig of tiny white flowers with the fantastic smell.
All year it never produces another leaf.

But it will spread ... oh, it will spread...

The first year it sleeps.
The second year it creeps.
The third year it leaps.

I spent hours digging up the lillies of the valley that spread. I wished I had never planted them. I also heard that the little berries that come on in late summer are poisonous. Is that true?

Nancy...yes, you had the right plant. When we had them when I was a kid they didn't seem to spread that much. They would die off when they got out where they got full sun.

GH...don't know about those being poisonous, but that is one way they spread!
