Painting stained kitchen cabinets Sign In/Join
posted
I just moved into a new home, with dark stained kitchen cabinets, that I hate! Makes the kitchen too dark. I would like to paint them antique white, like the rest of the trim. How do I go about doing that? I believe the wood used is knotty alder, so there are some imperfections in the cabinets...Help!!

I know that everyone on tv just paints their cabinets but it didn't work for me when I tried it on some cabinets in my mother's home. The paint went on unevenly and it looked horrible. To get a really professional look you have to get them sprayed. I know that there are places in my area that have spray booths and they advertise their services. Also, knots may take paint differently than the surrounding surface. Whatever you decide to do, I would start with a very small drawer before I did anything.
