We are buying a new house. The kitchen has med color oak cabinets and hunter green laminate counters. Does anyone have some suggestions for a color to paint the cabinets to minimize the green counter tops? We'll probably replace the counter tops in the future but I want to do something now to make the kitchen look better.

I would go with a rich cream with a glaze. Make sure you check out carefully how to paint oak cabines -- they can be done successfully but I believe you have to do quite a bit or "prep" work because of the grain of oak. Maybe get new hardware also -- something with an antique finish. If the countertop is a more muted green you could paint the walls a color like Plantation eige by Duron -- a nice neutral that is a bit golden but not at all yellow. Then use different accent pieces in a third color -- staying away from the green -- and you will have a nice look

Sorry -- I meant to post Plantation Beige by Duron.

may be that it is just as easy to strip the poly and some of the stain from the cabinet doors and paint the frames a cream and change the door pulls? a new coat of poly does wonders for old doors Wink

My neighbor has dark cherry cabinets with her hunter green laminate counters, so going to a darker color may help. On the other hand, I can visualize the cream dominating the kitchen with its light and bright effect and therefore making the green recede. Green can be a difficult color to work with! Maybe you can fit a veneer over the top of it! Good luck!
