Hello, I am new here and in need of some help on my kitchen. I just knocked out a wall and had a bar built in its place. I don't like the red so I am going to paint or stain the cabnents and replace the gold knobs&hinges with silver ones. I am thinking about sanding them down and staining them the same color as my floors.
Or should I paint them? And I am taking that wallpaper off and painting the walls. What color should I do it in. You can see I have tan in the living room, need some color? I need some help so don't be shy on telling what my kitchen needs..... kitchen kitchen2 kitchen3 countertop This message has been edited. Last edited by: razorbackdaddy, |

Hi raxorbackdaddy...Welcome to the boards. I would suggest reposting this on the general decorating board. There is a lot more traffic and lots are willing to help. I am in the process of trying to figure out what I want to do with my kitchen so I am no help.
I don't think you really want to stain them the same color as your floor and you might find it a lot easier to paint them rather than sand then down enough so you can stain them. Painting would involve a light sanding, priming with a good bonding primer and then painting with the color of your choice. If the counters are staying you could consider dark cabinets on the bottom with lighter ones on the top. But really you should considering the general board to gets lots of response...maybe more than you would like *Debi* ~*Never trade the thrills of living for the security of existence*~ |

Since it's a small kitchen I would go white. It will look clean and crisp. Pick up on the molding color. Going the floor color will be way too dark and close the kitchen in. I think the white will look sharp against the counter tops and the new stainless hardware.
To paint lightly sand to give surface " A Tooth" use a quality primer and use a washable gloss paint. Gloss comes low gloss and high gloss look at them in person to decide. Also if your cabinets have nicks or are beat up the high gloss will show up flaws if so sand out the dings in the wood. You are on your way. GREAT JOB!!! post after pics. Lucky me |

I agree with a lighter kitchen -- although a nice creamy color with a glaze would also be nice. I like the countertop -- because the room adjoining looks like a nice neutral gold I would stay in that tone for the walls. It also goes nicely with cream and the blue/green color of the countertop. Get a nice oriental rug with all the coorindating colors and your kitchen will look fantastic!

I really like that bar! That was a good idea to open up the kitchen like that.
I have to agree with the others...you would probably get better results with sanding lightly and repainting those cabinets. I was thinking that, once you get that wall paper down, it might look nice to continue with your cabinet color right up to the ceiling there...to lessen the "choppy" look. Also, I know you didn't ask about this, but I would either paint that white toe kick a dark color or the color you end up with on the cabinets. It is calling lots of attention to itself! |
