We are designing custom cabinets for a complete remodel in a somewhat small kitchen. I want a message center where I can keep kids' school calendars, note pads, pencils, markers, etc., hidden and out of the hands of early elementary school age children. A desk isn't possible in the space we have, but I need the message center to (1) be convenient (2) not place any clutter on the countertop, and (3) be out of the reach of kids. If not out of kids' reach, it needs to at least be out of their line of sight if possible.

Sheet metal from the box stores can be cut to size and attached to the inside of upper cupboard doors. (leave plain, spray paint or cover with contac paper or fabric)
Then magnets can be used to hold messages, small container for pens, calendars, notes and such. No visual clutter and out of the way of little hands.

Thank you, Conrad, that's one of the things we are looking at. Any other suggestions are welcome.
