I have an open kitchen to a family rm and breakfast room that get a lot of natural light. The walls are yellow, stainless appliances, toffee maple cabinets, dark funiture to offset the yellow walls, and a black, cream and toffee granite counter.I have no idea what to do for a backsplash.Would black subway tiles look OK?I was hoping it could give the kitchen corner some weight among all the yellow and add contrast.Thoughts?

I personally wouldn't do black tiles just because black tiles have a tendency to look dated pretty fast. Look at all the "sleek, modern, black" tiled bathrooms they went out of style almost as soon as they came into style. I think I'd probably play up the toffee and cream that is in your countertop.

Thanks, I did not even think of that.

How about stainless steel, which would go well with the granite.

just try and remember that it is way easier to change the color of your kitchen than the tile backsplash, so whatever you use, use something that you can use for a while and just change your wall color as a quicky remodel
