I've finally chosen Verde butterfly for countertops in my kitchen. We're not doing a 4 inch backsplash, but putting some kind of tile backsplash up ourselves. Any suggestions on color or style for the backsplash? Also, do we need to take down the wallpaper that is there, or can we just "score" it some before applying the tile adhesive? thanks

Wallpaper needs to come down. Pick a tile that pulls out one of the lighter tones for greater contrast.

We just installed a new granite and backsplash in our kitchen. Although I've not seen this done before our backsplash of tempered reed glass looks awesome. The glass tile we wanted for this space was over $3K. The tempered glass installed was under $200. (of course we did the install - very simple). It also allows us to easily change the color of the wall behind the reed glass - transforming the whole look in a couple of hours. If you would like pics let me know.

What is tempered reed glass and where can I get it? I'm getting ready to install backsplash and struggling to choose the "right" one. Thanks much.

We purchased our glass from City Glass & Upholstery in Tacoma, WA. It is widely available from most glass mfg. It is tempered glass that has one flat side and the other is vertical waves about 1/2 apart. Google will take you to several sites that might help you get an idea of what it looks like. Gives a clean, contemporary look. We've used this same glass in a few of our kitchen cabinet doors and in our entry.

Would it be possible for you to post this over on the Decorating board with pictures so we can all see. I'm sure those folks over there would love to see also - they love pics!

You can insert pics into your post on that board.

Silk Purse: How did you install the glass? I gather that you can take it down if you want to change the color of the wall. Please do post pictures on the decorating forum and let us know here when you do. TIA

The glass sits in a brushed aluminum channel that is attached to the granite counter with silicon adhesive. At the top under the cabinets we installed simple clear mirror brackets (2 on each side). Behind the stovetop the glass is attached with a piece of "L" aluminum that is screwed to the underside of the vent hood - we took a leftover piece of the brushed aluminum channel and slipped it between the backsplash and "L" just to give it a finished look.
