I'm buying a new house that I love except for the kitchen countertops. They are a hunter green formica that extend up the back wall to the bottom of the cabinets. I don't have the money to replace them immediately, but I'm hoping for some suggestions to make them alright for now. I have dark cherry cabinets and white appliances except for a stainless steel fridge. Also, this is an open concept that opens up into the living room. I was thinking maybe of removing the back portion of the formica and putting up a backsplash. If you have any ideas and/or pictures do share. I'm also thinking of paint schemes for the eat in kitchen and living room. Please help.

Just to consider all the alternatives, you might check out the kits that turn formica into concrete countertops.

A backsplash is a great idea. It'd be helpful if you posted pix of both your kitchen and living room.

What are your preferred color combinations? Considering any backsplashes already and/or paint combinations? (Forward the paint chips, too - if possible.) The light situation in the room? Your design style?

If you respond with that additional info, I'm sure you'll receive many helpful suggestions.

Good Luck!
