I want to add knobs and pulls to my kitchen cabinets and doors. It's a small 9 year old kitchen (11.5 X 10). Can you tell me which size and whether to use both knobs and pulls and, if so, where. I am thinking about choosing black since my cabinet color is light maple and my sink is white. Most door handles are gold.

I am also considering a new chandelier for the dinette part of the kitchen (11.5 X 11.5). The dinette table is 54" round. What size should the chandelier be?

Thank you for any help you can provide?

Sincerely,
Barbara

Knobs and pulls are strictly a personal and functional item. They dress up the cabinets like jewelry, they protect the wood and they make it easier to open the drawers and doors. Some people like them, some don't.

Typically, I suggest knobs for doors and handles for drawers, although you could reverse that or use all knobs or all handles (but you will have handles going horizontal on the drawers and either horizontal or vertical on the doors) Both should be a comfortable size to use; not too small to make it hard for people with large fingers or disabilities to use, not to big to fit on the frame (if that's the style you have) of the door or be out of proportion.

www.coolknobsandpulls.com is a good source to use. They have very good prices and a large selection.

Your chandelier should be proportionate to your table. 16" diameter, 30" above table would work well.

I'm just finishing up my kitchen project. It took me a few days to choose my knobs and pulls.

I used knobs on the doors, pulls on the drawers. I bought several different ones (basically using them as samples) and brought them home to try out. Some were eliminated immediately. Too dark, too small, wrong color, whatever. The "ornate" ones may have been pretty individually, but multiplied by 30 in a small kitchen and it became too busy.

Take a few home. It's interesting to see how different styles/colors/sizes look. And then, when you've narrowed it down, lie awake at night and agonize over your choices Wink

My Dad just redid all the fronts on his solid Walnut custom cabinets because the surfaces had been scratched and marred by fingernails over the years- he felt the knobs and handles were too close fitting to the doors, thus causing the damage. Just something to think about...
