hardwood flooring for oak cabinetry Sign In/Join

I'm having a hard time picking out which color I should go with for hardwood floor that will compliment our oak cabinetry. We have oak everywhere, cabinets, mantel, stair railing. I like smooth non grainy wood flooring. Can I go with darker wood flooring? Or do I have to go with oak but maybe a shade or two darker?

My goal is to modernize my house that has traditional country look with oak color everywhere without stripping down the whole house.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

You can certainly mix woods!! I am cautious about dark floors because they show so much dirt and lint and also because they will make the rooms look darker to some extent. (I also lived thru the last time dark floors/cabinets were the trend and have seen most of them replaced)

Get samples of the wood you are considering from your dealer (the bigger the better). Move the samples to varius parts of the room and at various times of the day. If you find one or two you think you like then let it sit for several days. Do not rush this process.

We have oak cabinets in our kitchen and had oak floors put in, white oak i believe, no stain and a satin finish and I love them. The space looks larger and we have a yellow lab and no fur shows up.

I forgot to mention that the oak finish is Honey Oak, which makes it challenging for me to make our house less country.

Below is the picture of our honey oak cabinetry and the flooring that I'm planning to get. What do you guys think of the flooring? what type of flooring goes well with this kind of Honey Oak cabinets?

I also have lots of honey oak and could use advice on which hardwood to get with it.

I am trying to decide the same thing right now. We are updating our kichen but nervous about going to a different color of cabinets because all our trim is the honey oak so I was thinking instead of changing the cabinet color te floor would be a good change. I like the color above so anxious to here other's opinions on this.

I'm personally not a huge fan of h/w flooring in kitchens (prefer tile). That said, I would consider the existing flooring in the adjacent rooms.

If you have h/w in adjacent rooms, you may want to match the old and possibly thread in the new for a seamless look. OTOH, new flooring of the same type against old of the same type doesn't always work.

Multiple flooring types in multiple rooms (especially if on the same floor/level) may appear too mismatched or patchwork and make the home feel smaller.

If you go monochromatic, Gutzy, your space may appear larger. Sounds like lotsa' wood, to me.

Good Luck!
