I just watched Design on a Dime 35 Secrets... and they showed a concrete overlay for countertops but didn't specify where or who makes it. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm moving a house that I got at a steal and will be renovating the entire structure. I was planning on doing my own concrete countertops but the laminate are structurally sound and this looked like an inexpensive option. Any help/tips/ideas are appreciated.
we do this work regularly,,, there're many companies who sell mtls for o'laying existing c-tops,,, the problem usually enounter'd is random cracking,,, however, good jointing practices negate this.
pretty much, the same method works for all mtls.

Thanks so much for your info. Modern Masters sounds similar to the product I found yesterday at Kelly Moore called Daich Coatings. I can't wait to skim coat my counter tops. If someone beats me to it, let me know the results and any tips you can share. thanks//

Me too, the north minn. thing. I want to try this but I have tiles counters and wonder about filling in the grout lines, some of which have oil or grease stains.
http://www.skimstone.com if you need the real source & they may have it private label'd for them,,, there aren't many manufacturers of this stuff,,, its similar to our mtl but acrylic based,,, far's you're all concerned, its magic powder,,, watch your jnt layout & do NOT apply directly to existing c-tops - even w/primer,,, not going to get into why as its physics/chemistry/mechanics lesson- we don't & you shouldn't.

It's actually a company out of California called Modern Masters. We were also going to use the concrete countertops but due to the lack of a vendor anywhere in the Eastern U.S., we've decided to go with Spreadstone/SpreadRock. I've seen these products up close and for our needs, liked that product better. There is a local vendor where we actually could go and put a hands off and see samples. For that product, try www.daichcoatings.com. From everything I understand the applications are very similar, just different end results depending on what you desire. Also look at www.NatkitaProducts.com (I think) for pics. She has also posted pics on this message forum! Good luck! Let me know how it goes!
I rewatched the show this was on and they applied it over the tile and bullnose. they used a rolled up piece of plastic wrap to smooth over the bullnose. What happens if you apply this over tile?
same method however, again, never heard of this product & have no idea of its tensile/flexural/compressive strength nor its adhesion/cohesion,,, you need to be sure you prep tile correctly in any event even if removing 1st.

we'd use either a pneumatic hand-scabbler or diamond grinder,,, if that proved too slow, we'd rip out the tile & start anew,,, realize you may not have those tools avail but you could use a hammer its dirty work !!! safety glasses & dust mask + lots of cleanup time as that fine dust'll find the back of your china cabinet in the dining room.
