We are going to purchase a new stainless steel fridge. Our old one (white) has the water dispenser on the outside and I love it and I know from having one that water does drip on the front of the fridge. Those of you who have a stainless steel fridge and water dispenser on the outside---would you do it again? I am okay with not having one if that is the general consent.

We have a SS Maytag side/side fridge and we have no problem at all with dripping water. I guess it depends upon the shape of the tray under the dispenser.

I've never had one and I don't plan on ever getting a fridge with ice or water in the door. I know they must be convenient, I guess I just like the solid door look.

My SS Electrolux is a year old. We specifically ordered one without a dispenser since that is the number 1 reason for repairs and problems with refrigerators. I know that my opinion is not that of the majority of buyers but I really don't want more appliance problems, I already have enough with double ovens that have issues with all the electronics that they have!

I did it again and love it a new stainless steel ge side by side with ice and water in the door .The best thing is the sealed condensor ,no more pulling fridge out to dust it in there .I also love the LED lights .My other GE was 8 years old and was a side by side also with ice and water in the door .But the newer one seems even bigger than the old one .The best thing home depot offered 99 dollar maintinence contract for 4 years .I would not go back and don't like the the french door my neighbor has one and has nothing but problems with the doors .I buy stainless steel because it is anti bacterial.I have an LG double oven and have not had a problem yet and bought it 2 months ago and same time I bought the new fridge and would not have needed them but lightening hit the house and damaged them and insurance company paid to replace them ,minus 500 dollar deductable of course .I love my new fridge and range and would buy them again .Double ovens are great for retired people or just quick meals .

I did have a side by side with dispenser years ago. I hated it because the tray to catch the drips got all slimy. Maybe I was our water, I don't know for sure. If I get a new frig, I want one with the ice maker inside and the frig on top, freezer on bottom. Seems to make more sense to me.

I have a portable convection oven and love it for the summer especially when I don't want to heat up the kitchen.

Such a gamble on appliance choices, not sure what help you can find here on current models.
We actually had two side by side refrigerators with ice and water dispenser in the door (in the past). One Whirlpool, the other a Maytag.

Neither had any issues with the dispensers, either failing to function or dripping (we liked them both). Had compressor issues with both during their lives, and one was old enough to not warrant the repair (the other we donated when we remodeled).

Consumer Reports is no help, as their testing is old, and hardly ever the models that one is actually looking for. A local, trusted, private repairman is who we usually ask, as he generally has knowledge on which models and brands are currently not having as many issues. He does this because he knows we always will call him, and recommend him to others.

I( just bought my new GE in august and could not believe how more energy efficient the new one is compared to the one that was new when I built this house .I also have to say it is much roomier on the inside even thought they are both 26 cubic feet inside and just think that is because the shelves and drawers are wider .I measure the inside of my 2004 GE side by side and this one is larger .I don't really need the freezer as I have a freezer in my laundry room that I bought in 2007 .I always clean the tray where the ice and water may drip too and have never had a problem .The led lights keep down the heat inside the fridge when it is open and I know with my other one I had a drip of water fall on the bulb when it was on and it popped .With this one the lights have covers over them and since they are led they are much brighter and give off no heat .I got the GE because it is the only one that has a sealed compressor and no need to pull it out and dust the motor .The other reason is the 5 year warranty 1 year from the manufacturer and 4 years from home depot and only 99 dollars .I always buy the warranty ,it is worth it these days .I checked consumer affairs and just about every thing I could find online also to see which was the best for the price I wanted to pay and for a thousand 4 hundred dollars I got this one onsale .Decided at the same time to upgrade my 2004 range to a double oven LG and got the warranty also on it and for a thousand 79 dollars I do not look back and love them both .I gave both of my other appliances to a needy family .
